Oh well, let's have a big, heated argument over whether No Doubt is metal or not.

Knuckle dragging thrash brutality perfected. It's too bad most Exodus albums have so much filler but at least we got one mostly solid record besides Bonded By Blood.

Overkill is a band that annoys me when it comes to their filler ratio. Ever since Bloodletting (a circa 2000 album), they've been super inconsistent. But I could assemble a pretty great 12 track album out of the albums they've made from Bloodletting until now.

I don't think it's physically possible for a song to end more apocalyptically badass than this one does. It's not often I'd use the term "violent" to describe a doom metal song but there it is.

The climax reminds me vaguely of this:

The actual cover for the album for the Electric Wizard song is fairly different.

I knew it was from Dopethrone but I felt awkward saying "the thumbnails are similar" cause the Shining cover isn't exactly a thumbnail...but leave it to my autistically convoluted social skills to not pull through in the end.

I've always enjoyed the 1995 debut despite the massive influence they take from Cathedral. I haven't listened to it in quite awhile though so my opinion of it may change after another listen-through. Dopethrone was a definitely better followup in every category- I know that for a fact.

They're stylistically influenced by Candlemass, but EW's magic is in the walls of distortion and Candlemass ****ing wishes.

Candlemass are Black Sabbath with Mercyful Fate, especially with the first album. I mean "A Sorcerer's Pledge" is definitely a Mercyful Fate song by way of Sabbath. Electric Wizard are Black Sabbath with... a bunch of other ****. I don't even know what other **** but they heard some cool ****ing **** so that's nice.

As far as doom metal goes, Saint Vitus is one of the best:
