If you don't consider Slayer extreme metal (which you should) that was literally the first extreme metal album I ever heard. With Possessed's Seven Churches and Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness being the second and third respectively. Killed my head in and "Necromansy" and "Raise the Dead" are still two of the catchiest songs I've ever heard and if the Ramones were an ugly metal band that's exactly what they'd sound like.

Edit: Oh wait I heard Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion before that but it didn't hit me nearly as hard.

How did Larry LaLonde go from being this incredible musical genius at 16 to being some dork in Primus?

By maintaining that musical genius, duh.

Not even a huge Possessed fan, I think they needed a second guitarist so the one didn't have to carry all the weight, dude sounds like he's sweating his ass off trying to carry all that **** by himself. Possessed could have been way sicker if they had a rhythm guitar player to let Lalonde go ape with lead guitar.

It does sound like that but I think it might be better that way.

Certain songs do go hard as a bitch in a way that makes them sound more of chaotic early black metal than death metal. I think if they didn't have a song called "Death Metal" they'd be considered black metal or just thrash rather than death metal. They really sound nothing like what was ever considered death metal at any period of death metal.

Realm of Chaos by Bolt Thrower

I though this was considered a classic but wiki doesn’t say much about it

What say you, Bat?

Bolt Thrower got the mad riffs but I don't got the sound system to bring them to life. Their production is quiet as hell and I need something with more punch to make that **** thump. The loudness wars passed Bolt Thrower the **** by. Which is really ****ing disappointing as Bolt Thrower really should ****ing thump. Bolt Thrower are not for headphones music fans. Get you some real speakers and a subwoofer and that **** will rock your world.

Interesting. I use headphones basically all the time. On the rare occasions that I ever see live shows these days it’s always surprising how you can feel it in your whole body.
