I persionally think Brave New World is their best. I love the sound on that album with the new long songs that dominate it, and as for the thin line.... wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
With all due respect, Brave New World may be the worst album Iron Maiden ever produced.
|
Many say that Iron Maiden established the metal genre. If so why the fu/< are their predecessors any good at all? I dislike Iron Maiden, l think they are a joke, that should be easily forgotten along with yes, the 80's when 'so called' good metal was without a doubt an epidemic!
Iron Maiden exemplify all those bands, who aren't worth the time of day! |
Iron Maiden did not establish the metal genre, and if they had how would that have an effect on their PREdecessors. You've shown with every post youv'e made that you don't know what you're talking about, and your last post is far from being an exception.
|
I gotta agree with SATCHMO - maybe I have a different view of metal from the rest of you but at least I recognise the importance of Maiden within that genre - and to an exyent the importance of other bands within the genre!

Hard to choose this one.
Judas Priest could have been the biggest metal band of the 80s but they blew it spectacually. Firstly by having a feud with Maiden that stems from a 1980 gig where Maiden were supporting them & Secondly deserting their UK fan base to concentrate on America (They didn`t play a single gig in the UK between 1981 & 1988). Also releasing 3 terrible albums while Maiden were on a roll didn`t help either. By the time they did get it together in the early 90s & released their best album in almost a decade (Painkiller) while Iron Maiden were looking tired & jaded (Losing Smith & Dickinson & putting out some patchy albums) ,when they did finally get some success Halford decided to jump ship & do his own thing. On the other hand Iron Maiden built their career on being a fan friendly band built on constant touring & not having to rely on mainstream success as Priest tried to do , therefore when they did hit a wall in the early - mid 90s they had a much bigger loyal fanbase than Judas Priest had to bail them out so to speak. Musically if I had to choose between them i`d say Judas Priest just edge it. I don`t listen to much metal these days but if I do i`ll be likely to listen to albums such as Sin After Sin , Stained Class , Killing Machine & Screaming For Vengence than any Iron Maiden album. I`ve always thought it a shame that Maiden never kept the direction of their first album & I think Killers is a hugely underrated album. I liked the first couple of albums with Dickinson but I lost total interest after Somewhere In Time. |

I was beginning to think I was the only person on earth who thought Seventh Son was an overlong over produced boring peice of festering crap. |
You mean you didn't like "Can I Play With Madness"?
|
Oh that was OK
How could I not like something that featured Graham Chapman in his last ever role before he died. Rest of the album was awful |
I was being facetious, but........Who's this Graam Chapman feller'?
|
From Monty Python , Played Brian in The Life Of Brian.
He played the schoolteacher in the video for Can I Play With Madness & died just a couple of months later. |

maiden for sure because they are one of the first bands to use the "galloping" base line and guitar rythms
good job spotting that via ears. |
tricky. priest are my 3rd fave band ever - AOR is ****ing awesome, as is painkiller. but i have to say maiden are my fave band ever. they are far more consistent, and DOD is the best album ever.
|
Although it was Slayer that turned me into metal in the late 1980's, Iron Maiden's 'Number Of The Beast' was one of the first metal albums i ever bought...so without a doubt i'v just got to say maiden
|
Maiden Is my favortie band of all time! So I would go with them. But I definantly love Priest so they're a close tie for first
|
There are a lot of Maiden songs I like, but not many Priest songs I like.

Maiden for sure.

Iron Maiden's the best, Metallica is Metallica thanks to Iron Maiden, alot of metal bands take a piece of Iron Maiden, and so should you. Comparing them to Juda's Preist is just stupid.
FYI; Juda's Preist is the 80's spawned metal band, Iron Maiden much earlier. |
its a trick question!!! even though i love maiden...ide have to say i like judas priest more....painkiller \m/ :) \m/

Judas Priest had 7 albums out before Iron Maiden recorded their first & were the biggest metal band in the UK in the late 70s. And I think you`ll find Metallica`s biggest influence was Diamond Head not Iron Maiden. |
Eh? Wtf, thats news to me.
Metallica wouldn't be who they are without Iron Maiden, think about it. You're bringing in new **** here, Diamond Head had nothing to do with this thread. Go UK lol... |
Personally, i think Maiden are far better then JP, There is no other band i can think of that has such a deep history and so many truly hardcore fans, they are THE true metal band

I don't know about that, but they're definitely better than any generic metal band, besides I don't think that Zach DeLaRocha's focal point was in putting himself over as a rapper, but rather to vocally deliver his anger about the truth of the socio-political system in which we live in a blatantly bold and relentless manner, hence the name: Rage Against the Machine. His primary influence was Chuck D of Public Enemy, One of the most legendary and powerful "rappers" that ever held a microphone, and you can definitely hear it in his work, but I think anyone would be hard pressed to call it imitation. In addition Tom Morello Is probably the most innovative guitarists of this generation. Its one thing to be able to play ten billion notes a second, any metal wanker who focuses hard enough can do that, but to be able to make a guitar sound like a multitude of different instruments takes a degree of talent that most haven't achieved. Put simply RATM is probably the most innovative original bands to come out of the 90's.

whatever dude. i hate them. that's all that matters.

I've always thought Juda's Preist began in the 1980's and haven't heard much at all about them, I live in Australia and half the people I ask, more I bet - don't know who this band is... Iron Maiden on the other hand are gods. |

Whoever said that Cobain was better than van Halen needs to be shot. Van halen basiclaly invented hammering on a guitar, he could hammer like no other. yeah, Nirvana had better songwriting but then again there ar emany 80's bands with better songs than nirvana. U2 for instance, Alice Cooper, Queen, AC DC, the Cure..Don't you understand that a lot of 80's stuff was pure gold?? Yeah, a lot of it was cheese like motley crue, bon jovi, posion, but every era has it's achilles heel. 80;s music was better than modern day dribble.. Iron Maiden own Judas Preist. JP were a lot more heavy rock for lengths of thier career than heavy metal, Maiden were always heavy metal. ****inson was eaisly their best singer though..What about metallica?? they were 80's!! Just because wham and lot sof other cheap, horrible bands were around doesn't mean every 80's abnd were bad..Niravana were a lot of rubbish, I am afarid to say, Pearl jam and AIC were far more talented..Niravan kind of killed the talented music playing bit..
