Maiden or Priest
Ok I was just wondering what you guys thought about this. Judas PRiest once got a bit p*ssed with Iron Maiden whilst Maiden were supporting them on tour. The boys from Priest complained that Maiden had stolen their sound and the two bands were almost the same (musically).
So which way would you choose, this isn't going on talent or song writing ability or anything, just a simple sorta see the two make a choice on instinct type poll... |
Oooooh tricky!
Would have to go with Maiden - cos they were the first metal band I really started buying - oooh remember those big black discs, kids? ;) Tough choice though. Wouldn't say they that similar though really... :D |
I would, but compare the early maiden more. In recent years they have gone all 'epic' on us!!

Run To The Hills makes this an easy desicion, well, that and Eddie Maiden

explanation : that song is one of the reasons why i laugh at people who listen to maiden, for you see, that song to me represents the epitome of lameness, the lameness of 80's rock....the lamest music genre that ever existed, created in an era that should be surgically removed from everyone's memory.... |

80s rockers were far more talented then most musicians who are big today.
(and i meant that Judas Priest - Breaking the Law represents the epitome of lameness compared to Iron Maidens - Run to the Hills) but im pretty sure you understood. |

Steve Vai, Randy Rhodes, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, Jake E. Lee, Warren Dimartini...the list goes on and on and these are just a few guitarists that were rockin in the 80s. No band out today plays with the technical abilities of these guys (with a few exceptions VERY few). Nirvana and grunge i believe killed the idea that you had to be extremely talented to be a successful musician. |

van halen ....HA!! |

my point being their all technical guitarists, and there arent many out today that could outplay them. As far as "good" music, well thats just a matter of taste and opinions. Quote:

Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. When's the last time you saw a girl flash her breasts at a Coldplay concert?
|
whoa slow down there speedy, i said Eddy Van Halen is a more talented guitarist than Kurt Cobain.

I like the cut of your jib!!! But we are skimming over Bryan Adams here right?! (please ignore the song I was listening to on my first post in this thread) |
We are certainly LEAPING over Bryan Adams here.

aha not so! A harmony is just two notes that are played together!
|
OK OK you're right !!!! I don't want to turn an 80's metal thread into an anal retentive debate over music theory.
|
A-HA! you got cought and now you wanna end the conversation....HA!
but please let's talk more about 80's rock.... |

ARRRGH. OK, last post on this. A double lead is a phrase that refers to a specific guitar playing technique which I described in my lengthy post. It is by dictionary definitions a harmony in the sense that it is two or more notes played simultaneously, but in the conventional sense it isn't, because a new (3rd) harmonic is not created in the combination of the root with the octave.

Too much pride for that. Even when I'm wrong I have to be right.

Anyhow my favorite Iron Maiden album is Powerslave. Dig the 10+ minute version of Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. As far as Judas Preist goes you just cannoty beat Screaming For Vengeance.
