A lot of the rock and heavy metal from the 70's and 80's is just so overplayed for me personally.

Modern metal seems to be more experimental and still evolving as we speak. At the least, it keeps me searching YouTube for something new and inventive.
Check out the following songs by them..they're not super heavy, but they've got big ol' balls!

Southern Comfort
Artist & Repertoire
Death March On Two, Ready
The Great American T Shirt Racket
Clean of You
Mirrors
Sugar Skulls

Again..not super heavy...but good rock...and the lyrics are phenomenal
