i like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple and they are generally classed as the original heavy metal bands. i dont know what particular type of metal they are,

also, the Who's first album, My Generation is sometimes classified as the first heavy metal/punk album

What about classic/proto metal?...Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep, UFO, Rush, Alice Cooper and King Crimson...thats the good stuff.

yeah, all great bands - i dont know much (anything) about metal other than this sort of stuff
