Would pirate metal have alot of nautical themes? I am just wondering what gives it the title... Perhaps there's a bit of Sea Shanty influence...

Sorry.... please my facecious nature this even, I have indeed had much to drink... and I just find all of these confusing genres / subgenres of metal somewhat perplexing and sometimes quite funny sounding...

I'm guessing there'd be that in the songwriting and musical tone.

i don't know what pirate metal is, but some of three inches of bloods older stuff makes me think of mutiny and treasure and dead men's chests

i have say i gave alestorm a listen. they were mentioned in that other thread about pirate metal, and they are really not that bad. their sound, to me anyways, is pretty much not much different then any other folk metal i've listened too. their lyrics are where they become pirate metal as they are pirate themed. a little ridiculous with the lyrics but amusing anyways. i'm a fan of some folk metal/viking metal whatever you want to call that genre. throwing in some bagpipes, violins, accordians into some metal has an interesting sound. good stuff.
