Didn't need RYM. A Blaze in the Northern gets the nod at times, but more often than not in my experience it's been Transylvanian Hunger.

Images and Words is maybe the more well-known album, but almost every Dream Theater fan will agree that Scenes From a Memory is a better album. The only reason I'm telling you this is because I actually want them to win, and Scenes From a Memory is simply their best album.

EDIT- Just a bit of subjectivity: The completed concept of Scenes From a Memory easily beats out Images and Words' pioneering prog metal. Just because an album started a genre doesn't mean it has to define it. By the way, some of Rush's stuff was definitely prog metal, years before Dream Theater was even around. Could you please just replace it?

Also, as someone pretty familiar with the genre, I can tell you that Dream Theater is definitely one of the best prog metal bands out there.
I'm one of the few Dream Theater fans on the forum, so no matter what album you suggest, it's almost guaranteed that they'll be voted off by the others on here, so no need to go to all this trouble.

The Eagles' Greatest Hits is the second best selling album of all time. Just let that sink in.

Very true. I'm pretty much assuming it'll be gone in round one.

You could always eject DT from the battle and put somebody else in.

I'd very much like to, but they're still considered one of the top prog metal bands for some reason. So, which album would you say? Plankton hates Dream Theater, Chula says Images and Words "all the way", and Trollheart doesn't really care about DT, but disinterestedly gives the nod to Images and Words. That just leaves you and Anteater.

Honestly, if this many members don't even like Dream Theater, then it might make sense to boot them, since there's no point in keeping a band that the people likely to participate in the battle think sucks.

3. First of all, I've only heard two full Rush albums, along with the two singles from Moving Pictures that get occasional radio play, but I've never heard any of their music that actually crossed the line from hard rock to actual metal, and I can't really remember ever seeing them included on any best of prog metal lists. If you've got something to change my mind, then by all means post a Youtube vid.

4. Secondly, I'll leave it up to the current prog fans of the forum: Trollheart, Unknown Soldier, Chula, Anteater, and Plankton. If they give back you up, then I'll change it. I guess I'll have to send most of them a PM, since only Unknown Soldier ever seems to check this thread regularly.
1. You probably haven't actually heard much Dream Theater, or you're under the impression that anything that isn't extremely heavy is "wank".

2. It is actually useful if you just want to get a general idea of an artist. The reason Octavarium is at #4 is because of the title track.

3.

Although a lot of progressive bands before Rush got maybe even heavier sounds. For instance:

4. I totally agree with that.

I've heard several of Dream Theater's albums and can confirm the presence of outright wankery. There's wanky ass metal too though, heaviness isn't really a factor.

You know what, whatever. You guys are clearly in the position we all call,"Not getting it". Just use Images and Words. I'd rather see Dream Theater in there at all than put their best album there.

By the way, I think we should start the Rock Album Survivor after we're done with Metal Album Survivor.

Ignoring all of the dust of the last couple of pages, Bat, check this out. 1975.

Disclaimer, Geddy at his high pitched finest. Not metal but heavy as ****.
