They have some seriously dissonant screams though. That's what I meant.

Fantômas's vocals are the best part about them along with the drums and you're a damn fool if you think otherwise.

I actually take back my statement about Obscura being the best on here. That honour quite obviously goes to Zu.

I'm on board with this.

As much as I should hate that kind of instrumental noodling, it's just genuinely fun to listen to, even for long periods.

Really? I could maybe see that for the first Fantômas album, but Director's Cut has pretty melodic vocals.

I would say the Zu album and the Naked City album are tied for first for me.

Lots of conflicting opinions here, and I finally got my **** together.

Alright, here we go:

Celtic Frost - It's good but just not as good as some of the others.
Fantomas - Half good, half bad. Really cheesy in general.
Cynic - Vocoders and growling don't fit too well together for me. And the majority of the album feels more like progressive metal than avant metal anyways.
Naked City - If Taz wasn't the vocalist, I think I would really like this one. Wait, the vocalist isn't a Looney Tunes character? Yeah, this one is hopefully going out.

By the way, Ostia is now one of my favorite songs ever.

SUGGEST ME AN ALBUM - I'm probably not going to listen to it but I will if you bother me enough.

Psst Naked City rules mate. I think cartoonish fits the description for Naked City, but I honestly don't see it as a bad thing. I wish Fantômas's debut was on the list, that's one of my favourite avant-garde metal records, much more so than Director's Cut (which I still like quite a bit too).

Well when you consider that this album was released in 1993, then I'd say it's avant garde. Who else was doing that?

Fates Warning, Queensryche, Crimson Glory, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Pendragon, Rush, Tool...

I got a bit carried away, but I wanted to put some emphasis on this.

And even look at the Wiki page. It describes it as Technical Death Metal, Progressive Metal, and Jazz Fusion. I just think Avant-Garde shouldn't be used to describe anything that simply deviates from the genre norm, but to describe something that deviates to create something completely new. Focus is more like Jazz Metal than anything else IMO.

Also, when does the next session of voting begin?
