If it had occurred to me, I probably would have use Destroyer instead of UFO or something. But it did not. I'm only human.

Well I guess that makes Blue Oyster Cult and half the other bands on this list pop bands as well.

I don't like K.I.S.S. or Ted Nugent, but they are two of the biggest names in 70's hard rock, who contributed to the development of metal.

Alright, I think we're gonna do metalcore after this battle. This has probably been the hardest list to finish, just because it's such an ignored genre, without the kind of easy consensus as thrash as to what are the quintessential albums. So I had to make more judgement calls. I'm reasonably satisfied with this list, but I'll make one last request for comments...

Metal/Mathcore

1. Converge - Jane Doe
2. Poison the Well - The Opposite of December
3. Protest the Hero - Fortress
4. Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
5. Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
6. Ringworm - The Promise
7. Integrity - Humanity Is the Devil
8. Botch - We Are the Romans
9. Snapcase - Progression Through Unlearning
10. Unbroken - Life. Love. Regret

Obviously there's a focus on early stuff (Integrity, Unbroken, and Ringworm) and late nineties metalcore/mathcore (Converge, Poison the Well, Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Snapcase), which leaves out a lot of melodic metalcore that people generally think of first when they think metalcore, but I just doubt this site has much interest in the post ninetiess stuff, so I only gave it two spots (Unearth and Protest the Hero).

Some bands have been left out just because of lack of space. Earth Crisis is probably the most obvious, but I just can't think of a spot to give them. I'm not really willing to make more room for more melodic metalcore -- for reasons already stated -- so Killswitch Engage has likewise been booted. I figure they sound enough like Unearth that it would be a redundant addition anyway.
