On the one hand, I knew Nirvana would get ahead. On the other hand, I'm disappointed people actually consider them metal.

They have that Sabbath influence, but at their most metal they're really just noise rock. That being said, it's not like most people take this thread particularly seriously. The bands are generally pretty arbitrary, so we're just here to talk about the bands themselves, not whether or not they're a better metal band. Including Nirvana has probably resulted in some of the most lively discussion on this thread TBH.

Nirvana still have one of the best sludge metal tracks of all time

Maybe there is some metal influence in there, but not enough for me to consider Nirvana metal overall. It's been a while since I have read up on Cobain, but I always thought he was more influenced by punk music than metal bands. Anyway, that's why they got popular when they did -- because they were a "new" sound at the time. Seems like their influence still holds.

Totally not disagreeing with you. The Black Sabbath influence is diluted between Black Flag to Melvins to Nirvana, so it's basically a footnote in Nirvana's influences. But who cares?

Was trying to get Nirvana voted off based on a technicality, to be honest.

And that's why you hump orangutans. Cause Nirvana is better than Alice in Chains.

Heroin does weird things to eyebrow twitches... I guess I shouldn't be making heroin jokes in this instance...
