Best 90's rock band?

I think it's unfair to say certain bands aren't 90's bands just because they started before the decade began. I mean going off that logic than Nirvana shouldn't be mentioned. I mean there first album came out in 1989. Tail end of the 80's. I think you have to classify the band by the height of there success.

It's not so much about when a band came out, it's about when they first really established themselves or when their heyday was. So, for example, Nirvana is a 90s band while Metallica is an 80s band.

Except Metallica's major mainstream breakthrough album came out in 1991. I get what you're saying. But at the same time they were as big in the 90's as they were in the 80's.

Metallica were already mainstream in the 80s. And it's about more than album sales anyway. It's about when they made their mark artistically.

Well, then an argument that could be made for both the 80's and the 90's. They were at the top of their game in the 90's. Master Of Puppets is arguably their best album. But their most influential album was probably the black album. With the black album they completely redefined what radio friendly metal was.

They did that in the 80s, which is also when all their best albums came out. They're an 80s band.
