I think Agalloch was the band that got me past the threshold of harsher vocals in metal. I think they are a decent "entry level" band for that. They don't really have a super harsh or gritty sound to them.
Now I'm the opposite; I generally don't listen to metal with clean vocals anymore. |

Clean vocals in extreme metal mostly sound like some faggy alternative rock bull****. Screw that. Even dull growling is better than that.

I like Torche 'cause they have a lot of happy extreme metal/punk instrumentals.

Honestly, I don't really listen to growling vocals in metal too much anymore ever since I found out that Katatonia and the like existed. I'm far more interested in that genre of metal than the over the top growling type. But that's just me.
