This is coming from a dude who loves even the silliest and awkward of ''Crack Rock Steady'' bands their vocals (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5dXkUAOlUA), so it's kinda hypocritical. Brutal Death vocals are constantly low and lack the energy I dig in Extreme vocals, it lacks that tensity I love. They also sound disgusting in a way I'm not a fan of, I'd rather have a Crusty type of dirtiness.

That's what Obituary is for.

See, that's an awesome vocal style, but let me show you the kind of Death Metal vocals I hate:

Hell, I hate that entire ****ing album. Why did I even finish it?

I'm pretty sure his vocals were deteriorating by that point. Listen to their next album when they told him he had to actually enunciate and you could hear just how ****ed his voice was. And now he sounds even worse in Six Feet Under.

He sounded much better on the debut though.

I think Agalloch was the band that got me past the threshold of harsher vocals in metal. I think they are a decent "entry level" band for that. They don't really have a super harsh or gritty sound to them.

Now I'm the opposite; I generally don't listen to metal with clean vocals anymore.

Listening to metal with only cleans these days often just leaves me wanting more :'(.

Agalloch are an exception, they do clean vocals very tastefully and it fits the flow of their music quite well.

Dylstew 08-17-2016 08:43 AM

I really wish Torche their vocals were more aggressive, it'd be amazing.

Clean vocals in extreme metal mostly sound like some faggy alternative rock bull****. Screw that. Even dull growling is better than that.

Dylstew 08-17-2016 08:49 AM

I like Torche 'cause they have a lot of happy extreme metal/punk instrumentals.

Honestly, I don't really listen to growling vocals in metal too much anymore ever since I found out that Katatonia and the like existed. I'm far more interested in that genre of metal than the over the top growling type. But that's just me.
