When I was younger I only really listened to bad pop punk, starting with Sum 41.
As a friend got me into Four Year Strong, people would tell me to get into A Day To Remember. But I didn't like it because A: It mostly sounded depressing instead of happy, and B: The growling. I not only found it unpleasant/too harsh, I also found it to sound silly/kind of funny. I kept listening to the song ''Heartless'' as it somehow stood out to me, and eventually got used to it. That unpleasant element somehow kept drawing me into the song. Another one that got me into the vocals was Everytime I Die, which unlike a Day To Remember I actually still like. Something that got me over the silliness as opposed to the heaviness of Extreme Vocals was, well, falling in love with Punk. A lot of Punk vocals are super amateurish and thus sounded strange to me at first but I ended up adoring it, thus silly extreme vocals weren't an issue.
Nowadays I adore extreme vocals. However, I do sometimes find constant monotone screaming to get boring. I a: Need some less tense or heavy parts to make the heavy parts more special, and b: I like having some kind of hook or catchy melodies to make it more memorable and fun. I also love screams on top of relatively happy music. Because of all this I find something like PEARS perfect.

It has clean but still raw catchy melodic parts, raw shouts/mixed parts, and screams/growls. It has a balanced mix of happy and non happy parts. It has melody but not too much melody.
One type of Extreme Vocals I just really don't like is those of Brutal Death Metal. Those pig growls sound extremely silly to me unless just a small part of a song. This is coming from a dude who loves even the silliest and awkward of ''Crack Rock Steady'' bands their vocals (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5dXkUAOlUA), so it's kinda hypocritical. Brutal Death vocals are constantly low and lack the energy I dig in Extreme vocals, it lacks that tensity I love. They also sound disgusting in a way I'm not a fan of, I'd rather have a Crusty type of dirtiness.
