Let’s not go there.
I was going by Chula's metric. And srsly any metal band that wasn't listening to The Stooges in the 70s was probably doing themselves wrong.

In the 70s I'd kind of agree. Which is why all those bands should have been listening.

If you're gonna boil it down to Robert Johnson then you could take it back to Handel.

Or the first time a Cro-Magnon man ever beat a bone on the skull of a vanquished Neanderthal enemy while raping his wife.

Black Sabbath S/T, no doubt. Robert Johnson is a definite root influence for rock and it's offspring genres like metal and I'm sure back in their day they would cover old songs like that, but Black Sabbath checks off all the boxes for being metal.

So you don't know that doom metal is a thing right? You don't know that Black Sabbath's influence actually exists in metal basically unchanged by probably all the things you hate in metal that you can think of?

Handel has about 50 years on Wagner so he's first and not a Nazi.
