Basically, I find these songs really boring and unimaginative. Black Sabbath and Cathedral did all of this 10-30 years earlier and much better too. This album is largely one note. Dip into any random moment on the album and it's going to sound identical to almost any other moment on the album. That's an exaggeration, but I do think this album is repetitive and uninteresting.

The fact that the album is from 2000 makes it really unimpressive. If they spear headed this kind of music, at least then I could understand it being so underdeveloped. Take away the grimey production and it's just a bunch of really dull metal tunes with nothing much going for them.

2/10
Nah. The riffs sound like blues riffs stripped down to an inhuman level. This is far darker and more nihilistic than the bluesy stuff Black Sabbath or Cathedral did. I think you're not giving them enough credit with the songwriting either. Only two songs on this album have similar construction, and "I, the Witchfinder" is one of the most unique songs I've ever heard in metal.
