They've gone on record as saying that their major inspiration was Blag Flag's My War album. They're just a ****ing experimental punk band. They're not metal.

My War was a huge influence on sludge metal.



Regardless of what they are, Ozma is a classic and I find it hilarious that the bassist was Shirley Temple's daughter.

Yeah, Melvins have dabbled in and influenced metal. Doesn't make them a metal band. Just makes them a band who have played what turned out to be metal. And I would argue that they were never intentionally playing metal so why call them metal? If you're going to pigeonhole them as anything they're a hardcore band. I mean **** if you wanna talk about sludge metal then Eyehategod honestly sound FAR more like a hardcore band than a metal band.
