Billy Corgan

I was never a huge fan of the pumpkins or zwan for that matter other than its real easy to file at work, but I think he has alot of talent that is going to waste right now. he stands to be the best musician of the 90's.

Since we do nothing but say what bands we like on this forum, how about we at least break it down to components and dice out why bands are great.

so...what do you think of Corgan. :band:

hookers with machineguns 12-24-2004 10:18 PM

I think Corgan needs to hook up with some other artists, and get a very talented group for a band. It depends whether he wants to go electronica like The Pumpkins were doing right before they quit, or if he wants to go like Siamese Dream stuff.
A lot of people hate Billy Corgan, but I honestly don't care because everyone that played in SP at one point was really talented. Still, I don't listen to Corgan that much...

sleepy jack 12-24-2004 11:46 PM

I think he should have done more work with the Marked but hes a good artist and Punpkins our one of my favorite grunge bands.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-25-2004 12:52 AM

The first 2 albums were pretty good , can`t take anything he`s done since seriously.

The thing about the albums he's done since, is that they're all a different type of music... Each and every one. And i cant believe u dont take Mellon Collie seriously... Coz thats their third album... If u dont, u should be shot...
Corgan is simply THE most talented artist around... Anyone who can write Soma, Zero, Mayonnaise, BWBW, Tonight Tonight, For Martha, omg, there's too many, well, he deserves RESPECT!

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-25-2004 06:46 PM

Melon collie is one of the worst albums i`ve ever heard.

The Smashing Pumpkins were one of my favourite bands until that turd of an album dropped.

It`s just a mish mash of half ideas in urgent need of a good mixing to make it a single album. And even then it still wouldn`t be as good as the first 2.

zerophyte 12-26-2004 05:21 PM

aw come on... seriously, u dont like Mellon Collie? christ... well it is a bit different from Gish, but not much different from SD, it's basically SD expanded... And it's SO good... oh well... we cant all like em. I guess u dont like Machina so? or Adore?

Delirium 01-17-2005 12:43 AM

What are your thoughts about the Smashing Pumkins

I loved the Pumkins so much when i was younger. They kept coming out with great music up til Adore came out. What happend and Why? Adore sounded so bad to me i dont know why. Machina Was better then adore but still sucked compared to something earlier. What is everyone thoughts about the pumkins here?

hookers with machineguns 01-17-2005 09:59 AM

I lost any interest I had in them after Siamese Dream. Melancholy was one of their most overrated, and their electronica junk really made me apathetic about their break-up. I don't care much for Zwan either. Besides that, I have no problem with jimmy chamberlein, d'arcy, or james iha

YES !!!!!!!!

Finally i`m not the only person who see`s that album for the overrated crock of **** it really is.

Delirium 01-17-2005 02:48 PM

Siamese dream has always been my favorite. I bought Melancholy when it first came out and i was happy with it. True they change there sound alittle, but not as much as adore. I was a little **** when that came out and i was thrilled that it peeked like it did. I never liked a group at that time that gained so much success. Maybe thats what changed the sound so much maybe. Melancholy overrated...yeah, So isnt nirvana: Nevermind?

Jonah 01-18-2005 08:40 AM

I like the smashing pumpkins somewhat. I don't own any of their cds, but I have about 20 of their songs. My class song when I graduated was "Tonight, Tonight"....not that I really cared about the class picks...but since we're on the subject of smashing pumpkins...

ForgottenHero 01-19-2005 11:12 PM

I like the Pumpkins. I pretty much Like everything they did. Including Adore, haha, which doesnt have much of a fanbase here. I really liked all of thier music. I do agree that Siamese Dream is the best, but I personally enjoy all of thier work.

Sneer 02-24-2005 11:01 AM

only heard 1 album and that was siamese dream, really liked it though i kind of lost interest quite quickly.

As soon as they kicked the drummer out they bombed. Adore was absolutely woeful and remains the only cd I've taken back to the shop a day after buying it, because it was so utterly dreadful. Corgan disappeared up his own arse on parts of Mellon Collie and clearly thought he was bigger than Jesus, despite the fact that album contained alongside some of their best records, some of their worst records as well. If he'd trimmed the dross off that album and made it one cd instead of a pointless two cd set then it could've been better than Siamese Dream. But he didn't, so it remains a record where the skip track button is your friend.

Y`see i`ve been saying that for years but for some reason people always seem to think double album = work of genius.

Most double albums i`ve heard suck, this one more than most

TheBig3 02-24-2005 02:27 PM

I dig the pumpkins, I think they were better than nirvana, but when it comes to the so called grunge scene, soundgarden is hard to top.

They did turn out really interesting songs though. I liked disarms' church bell or whatever it was, I was a fan of EYE, and love the riffs from Everlasting gaze and zero.

Sneer 02-24-2005 02:58 PM

id agree with your soundgarden point.

Anarchy doll 02-25-2005 12:45 PM

Pumpkins were great in thir time, lots of good songs, I found Corgan to be a bit of a self indulged whiner though...bassist Darcy was cool though!I especially love the video for "Try,Try,Try"

sleepy jack 02-25-2005 05:58 PM

They were rad i think corgan should have stayed with The Marked but...thats me.

PopIsDead 03-21-2005 11:22 PM

When I look at this thread all I see is talk about Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie but what about Gish? What does anyone think about that album? I think its their best cd, but that's just my opinion.

I actually invested in that box cd set that came out right after Mellon Collie... it was interesting, but right then and there i knew they were changing their sound, and didn't like it. I agree with franscar.

Honestly, they should have stopped after Siamese Dream. Gish is a good album, I'm not much of an SP fan to begin with, but I would agree that it is their "best." Their career just progressively spiraled down the toilet with each album release. That is all I have to say.

vaya 03-22-2005 12:04 PM

I have siamese dream and mellon collie and love them both like children

yeah, for my 14th B Day I got a cd player and 2 cd's and they were Garbage(self titled) and Gish...really good album...I can barely remember the names, but song #1 was really good, and that acoustic on with Darcy was great! I think that was like the second last song or somethin'?

PopIsDead 03-22-2005 07:35 PM

Gish must be one of those things that people forget about until someone mentions it.

soundgardenrox 03-25-2005 11:27 PM

Gish is incredible, i love that album. Siamese Dream was really good too, but i honestly think thats overrated somewhat. Mellon Collie was an amazing album, one of the best i have ever heard. But adore and machina, were sub-par for what the pumpkins could really do. But you could tell that they were going to switch over to electronica-pop after Mellon Collie. I dont really like that stuff. But Mellon Collie hits nearly every type of rock effectively and they even hit electronica, which some of their electronic stuff on that album is ok. I just love how they play each type of rock soo well and stuff outside of rock.

Trauma 03-26-2005 05:23 PM

umm, not sure

What the heck are you talking about?? The Smashing Pumpkins were less than Nirvana in the grunge scene because even though TSP and Soundgarden were classified as grunge, Nirvana are the ones that made them famous...ignorance is bliss though. Think what you want.
