How's this for a comparisation:

Queen vs. Electric Light Orchestra (for the musical approach) or Queen vs. David Bowie (for the theatricality).

Discuss.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
Al Pacino = God

Not a great comparison as King Crimson were very much Prog, compared to Queen who are more Hard glammy rock with a lot of other element thrown in, including a little Prog. But this was only in their early days, most of their proggy influences were gone by about the late 70's.

The comparison is not as strange as you think, Queen were one of the first bands to play pomp rock (an easier listening form of prog rock and normally with shorter songs) which eventually evolved into arena rock.

That's a fair point. I guess if you're only comparing the Queen's earlier era then it makes sense; probably everything prior to News of the World.

I`d classify most of their earlier stuff as pomp rock and a song like "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a great example of this. Queen did this song in just 5 to 6 mins, wheras a group like Yes probably would`ve stretched it out for around 20 mins!

I agree Soldier, 20 minutes or longer. Rush was good about doing the exact same thing doing the era of Caress Of Steel and 2112.
