It basically boils down to the fact that Rush Fans like Peart and Who fans like Moon. It's chalk and cheese and both bands play very different music so a comparison is hardly fair.
Peart is technically accomplished and is a fantastic drummer. Moon is instinctive and his primal approach is more in keeping with an ethos that promotes power and attitude over diligence. Both are good and fit their music perfectly. |
yep.
I voted Peart for his virtuousity, but Moon was like a controlled explosion. Peart is like a guided missile, Moon like Rambo with an m-60. And they both slay. |
Keith Moon by far, both great drummers, but this guy revolutionized the drum fill. A legend for sure.

this is an incredibly difficult choice. sadly, i never had the pleasure of seeing Moon live, although i have watched dvds. you guys have it right when you describe him as "free spirited" "coloring outside the lines" and "Rambo with an m-60" i've enjoyed every minute of watching him on those dvds.
i have seen Rush live, and could not believe that all that sound was coming from one man. Peart sat calmly the entire time, with the most serious look on his face of anyone i've ever seen, still able to make that incredible and intricate sound. |
better drummer?
I don't think it is even something to judge. Keith is gone, but was great, with his own style, etc,. And neil is still out there kicking ass. :band:

Big Who fan, so this is a no brainer...plus I'm more into musicians who play with feeling rather than technical ability.
Moon was the highlight of The Kids Are Alright. I was watching it yesterday and get blown away by his performances each time I see them. |
