The man was awesome, the best albiet except for John Bonham.
Unfortunately both of these excellent drummers didn't make it to old age but their legacy lives on.

May we meet in heaven guys you rocked this world

Finally, a pole on here that it was genuinely hard to chose since I respect and admire both drummers greatly *votes Peart, then flees*

While Peart would be considered technically better....Keith Moon was part of the set..he had more heart to his playing.

Just heard "Working Man" on the radio, and you know what my first thought was? Neil Peart used to be really, really good. Just a classic Sabbath/Zepplin inspired heavy jam, that Rush has never done since. Then I found out it wasn't even him! It was John Rutsy! He was a great songwriter, but he doesn't pound the skins the way Keith Moon did. Furthermore, not only was Moon more powerful, he was also lightning fast. Plus Moon was what all drummers should be...a little crazy.

Rush had some amazing drum work, Peart was pretty cool. But Moon, is just Moon. He was fantastic in every way, he had such and class when he played, he was just exciting.

Bruford > Both.

I have always enjoyed Carl Palmer and Alan Whites drumming a lot more than Pearts too.

Technically Peart is probably the best rock drummer though, well at least he's a good candidate.

Moon however, he's the candidate for greatest rock drummer. Only guy I can think of who could compete for that title is Bonham.
