But that's true of the biggest names in any genre. There are plenty of bands from the 80s & 90s that get just as much hero worship as those bands , I don't need to name names we all know who they are.

I think it's ridiculous to suggest that classic rock can be either overrated or underrated. For every Led Zeppelin or Queen there's also bands like for example Nazareth or The Sensational Alex Harvey band. Bands who had a pretty sizeable following in the 70s who have practically been forgotten about now.
