It's been 42 years since their last album release so I don't think we're gonna see any new material. Plus two of them are dead.

AMM
-generated most of the aesthetics and politics of the free improv movement
-every member went on to incredible solo and collaborative careers
-one of the best debut albums of all time
-exposed Paul McCartney to Cageian ideas (that he would never implement anywhere in any useful way) to which he said he felt they went on too long

Least favourite Beatles album

Apologies if this has been posted previously.(I haven`t seen it anywhere else so....)
My least favourite is The White Album-there are several tracks which are simply nowhere near Beatles standard. Others sound like out-takes or demos.
"Rocky Racoon", "Wild Honey Pie", "Why don`t we do it in the road", " Me and my monkey", "Piggies", not to mention "Revolution 9"!
Being The Beatles, of course there is some great music too-"While my guitar gently weeps", "Back in the USSR", " Helter Skelter", "Blackbird" "Yer Blues".
But as George Martin said in the Anthology, it would have made a brilliant single album.

Cinnamonics 02-06-2013 07:09 AM

I agree that the White Album has some fillers, but I love "Wild Honey Pie", "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" and "..Me and My Monkey". The weakest ones for me are "Revolution 9" and "Don't Pass Me By", the rest ranges from good to sublime. :) My least favourite Beatles album is probably "With the Beatles", even if half of it is brilliant.

Mooneh 02-06-2013 07:43 AM

Yellow Submarine for obvious reasons, if you were to count it.

Other than that probably With The Beatles. Beatles for Sale seems to be unpopular but I can't get enough of Mr. Moonlight, No Reply, I'll Follow the Sun and Rock and Roll Music. With The Beatles is great but it doesn't have an impression that all the other albums have left me with.

neardeathexperience 02-06-2013 06:23 PM

Let It Be because I was waiting for some inspiration in the form of previous songs that the Beatles had brought us and they just were not there. Yes there is Let It Be, but one song does not make an album!

William Zanzinger 02-08-2013 04:21 PM

To be honest, I think "With The Beatles" is a great pop album-especially in the context of contemporary music in 1963.
Ok, there is some dross-(Little Child, Hold me Tight), but there are some great Lennon-McCartney originals -All My Loving, It Won`t be Long, Not a Second Time and the best ever versions of Please Mr Postman, Money and You really got a hold on me.
Personally, I think "Beatles for Sale" was far weaker.

j.w. 02-10-2013 08:05 AM

I think I'm too young to really appreciate the early Beatles stuff. I'll take Let It Be over a number of earlier releases... certainly any of the '64 albums. I do appreciate that it's a little bit of a drop from the White Album, but I think that's exaggerated because of the trash that the Beatles talked about it, which I don't think was totally objective.

It's their weakest album aside from With the Beatles, for sure. Which is as it should be, given that it's practically mostly a bunch of demos. That said, I would say "Across the Universe" and ESPECIALLY "I Me Mine" are fantastic.

It's funny, but when I discovered the band a few years ago, in my mid-20s, it was the early stuff I connected to first. Which is strange, really, as I came from a metal/prog rock mentality. The latter half of their career is of course superior, but I can't rate "A Hard Days' Night" anything less than stellar.

Why was this thread not moved to a previous one about the Beatles? Just wondering......

It's a separate topic... is there already a thread on least favourite Beatles albums? I'll merge it.

Will The Beatles US albums ever be reissued on vinyl?

Hi everyone. So, recently the beatles UK albums were rereleased on vinyl. The only US album that was reissued was Magical Mystery Tour. Do you think that the US capitol albums will ever be rereleased on vinyl? Personally, I really hope so, mainly because they flow better and have the hit singles on them

Godstone 02-19-2013 11:57 PM

but the US albums weren't what The Beatles intended - they were carved up so as to include the singles, which meant fans had to buy those tracks twice (on the albums and on 7") whereas the original albums gave the fans more value by not including all the singles.

Chives 02-22-2013 12:07 PM

As far as I'm concerned, there are enough vintage copies of the American albums floating around in record stores and the like to satisfy the few people that really want them. Maybe the mono versions would be difficult to locate for all the American albums but anybody who wants them would have to be a huge Beatles fan...perhaps big enough to just invest in getting original copies? I don't think it's necessary.

I thought they reissued Revolver? I could have sworn I saw it.... Either way, I agree. Every time I walk into a record store I see like six copies of Sgt. Peppers, numerous copies of Magical Mystery Tour, etc.

The US version of Revolver with it's slightly different track listing hasn't had a modern vinyl reissue (past the year 2000) to my knowledge. And yeah, most Beatles albums are readily available as long as you don't mind the sometimes peculiar mixes that are the most common.

Yellow Submarine

John, Paul, George And Ringo

I can't tell you when the names were rolled out in this order, but for some unexplainable reason they always seemed to be talked about in this order. Perhaps it was due to John being somewhat the spokes person for the band. The fellow with all the off the cuff answers for those interviews. Do most people roll the Beatle's names out in this order?

neardeathexperience 03-30-2013 07:26 PM

Also it seemed that at the start of their career John sang lead on most of their songs along with most of their earlier hits. Hard Day's Night , Help, only by Revolver and Rubber Soul did Paul get rolling except for the back up harmony of course.........

Euronomus 04-01-2013 03:01 PM

It's the order they joined the band. John started a band called the Quarrymen which Paul joined a year later and George joined a year after that, when Lennon's Mother died the Quarrymen fell apart and resurrected a year or two later as the Beatles with Pete Best on Drums(it's a little more complicated than that but whatever). When they Went to record their first single, producer George Martin decided Best wasn't a very good drummer and wanted to use a studio musician on the record, instead the band decided to just replace him entirely with Ringo.

Heather

I Lost Little Girl

Please add other good ones, too.

neardeathexperience 04-03-2013 11:05 AM

A few out takes of different songs like Strawberry Fields Black Bird etc......

Perhaps a little off topic from what has been written here, but this is a Beatle's thread an apparently this is where you would post anything about the Beatles so here goes....

I think the Anthology version of She Came In Through The Bathroom Window has more emotion and sounds better then what the band opted for on the actual album. What do the others here think of my opinion?

CrazyVegn 04-25-2013 09:30 PM

NO

I totally agree, it's a lot more raw & powerful.

I started the "Least Favourite Beatles Album" thread, which is IMO at least as relevant as any of the "Favourite" lists which are endemic on this site.
I said at the time "Apologies if this has been posted before"-it hadn`t.
So why has it ended up here?
