Thank you. I am honored.

My favourite Beatles song is probably Because. Those angelic harmonies are unbelievable close when you think how things were back then. Also it showcases their singing abilities pretty well.
My favourite Beatles is George. Musically speaking I can't decide who is the best, John or Paul but as a person Georgen was very sympathetic and lovely, based on what I've heard or read

My favourite Beatles song would have to be You've Got to Hide Your Love Away. It's just a lovely, simplistic song and John's voice in it always gives me chills. Though I'm quite partial to anything from Help, as I used to love watching the film when I was growing up too!

How the hell does one pick a fave Beatles song?

Taxman 12-28-2013 01:37 AM

I dunno. It is not possible

Jokerman 12-28-2013 04:37 AM

It's easier to pick a beatles track I don't like, Yellow Submarine, that's it.

Taxman 12-28-2013 05:53 AM

Oh, how it comes to be so? It is absolutely lovely piece of music. The one I don't like is Revolution,#9. Sound collages just are not for me.

RoxyRollah 12-28-2013 06:49 AM

It's All too Much
Tomorrow Never Knows
Rain
Dear Prudence
Baby Your a Rich Man
Ticket To Ride

Taxman 12-28-2013 06:53 AM

Glad to hear someone likes All Too Much.

One of the least well-known Beatles songs, Hey Bulldog, is one of their best also.

The beatles

Wich song of The Beatles do you think is the best?

javerend 06-05-2014 03:05 PM

I personally have a couple favorites (and from a band with such an impressive discography it's hard to narrow it down that much):

Nowhere Man (Rubber Soul): This song showed a piece of the shift from the masters of the 3 minute pop-song Beatles to the Beatles who were starting to be artists. Also the little blue guy in the Yellow Submarine is unforgettable.

Eleanor Rigby (Revolver): The infinite sadness. Few songs had at the time, incorporated strings as well as they managed to, and with that new base gave us the ability to gaze into the lonely souls of humanity.

A Day in the Life (Sgt. Pepper): Moving into their most musically inspirational, if not greatest, album this song covers the daily life, the disconnect with the tragedies of death and the world, and is an example of some of their finest songwriting.

The Fool on the Hill (Magical Mystery Tour): The Man of a thousand voices is talking perfectly loud, guys.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps (White Album): Pretty sure this one is an all around favorite, good writing, catchy guitar, and a rather tame song off of the same album as Wild Honey Pie.

Hey Bulldog (Yellow Submarine): It was always my aspiration as a child to be able to play this on piano. That's the reason I started learning all those years ago: I really wanted to play this song; but just the opening piano part. Do I know it yet? Nope.

Golden Slumber / Carry the Weight / The End (Abbey Road): 7 years after their first release, millions of fans and hundreds of songs later, these 3 songs bring everything together and tie it up into a beautiful crescendo of music and sound that leave you swirling and wishing there would be more.

neardeathexperience 06-08-2014 02:20 PM

Their entire discography is wonderful except the instrumental songs on the second side of Yellow Submarine.

neardeathexperience 07-02-2014 11:32 AM

The "I've Got A Feeling " song is pretty impressive when remastered! It just is a stunning example of what the Beatles could pull off after what they had already accomplished.......

neardeathexperience 07-06-2014 07:52 AM

Since this is a Beatle's thread I want to offer an opinion that George's version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps on the Anthology album is a much better version of the song because of it's simplistic style it matches the songs meaning.

The plaintive vocal that George delivers pretty much eclipses the one that was decided upon for the "White Album".........Paul's so called sweet ass piano has been rolled out on numerous Beatle songs and yes it was sweet over and over.:band:

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 07-12-2014 04:22 PM

You know what I just realized today? The version of I'm Only Sleeping on Yesterday and Today is a little different from the version on Revolver.

Maybe this is way out of left field - but I love Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Heart Clubs Band (reprise). That song really rocks.

Other favorites: All My Loving, I Feel Fine, I Call Your Name, She´s A Woman, Drive My Car, And Your Bird Can Sing, Lady Madonna, Back in the U.S.S.R - oh crap, I´m about to give you more than half of the entire Beatles discography.

The Beatles were such consistently good songwriters!

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 07-14-2014 08:34 PM

In the current issue of Atlantic magazine there's a good article comparing and contrasting the styles of Lennon and McCartney - one of those "they were opposites who complimented each other perfectly" kind of analyses.

I personally identify with Nowhere Man and I love the super-twang guitar solo.

But there are so many good ones, so much fun to play, hard to pick just one.

Zhanteimi 02-15-2019 04:05 PM

*yawn* John, the obvious answer, is the one most people have chosen. How typical!

on the other hand you gotta try really hard to select anyone else [okay besides Paul that is]

i think that trying to be diferrent is just as boring..

Zhanteimi 02-16-2019 01:52 PM

Paul is better.

Marie Monday 02-16-2019 02:56 PM

Paul might be a slightly better composer in a purely musical, technical way but John is certainly the better artist

ziggywas 02-17-2019 02:25 AM

"Night had now fallen on ancient Krikkit... a small group of people... were walking home across the hill towards the town... actually singing a song about how terribly nice everything was... Arthur could almost imagine Paul McCartney sitting with his feet up by the fire one evening, humming it to Linda and wondering what to buy with the proceeds, and thinking probably Essex...

Arthur saw that a couple of members of the party were now singing a different song. It came lilting back to them through the soft night air, and was a sweet romantic ballad that would have netted McCartney Kent and Sussex and enabled him to put in a fair offer for Hampshire

"The middle eight bridge, which would have had McCartney consolidated in Winchester and gazing intently over the Test Valley to the rich pickings of the New Forest beyond, had some curious lyrics."

"From somewhere at the back of the crowd a single voice started to sing a tune which would have enabled Paul McCartney, had he written it, to buy the world."

[i love paul by the way, so did douglas adams]

This is excellent. The Beatles recorded this album in bits and pieces, while these musicians do it all in one session and remain as true the original instruments as possible. That's quite a feat.

So, I've been listening to the Beatles lately, and it seems to me Abbey road is by far the best thing they've ever done.

But what I wanted to know is, what's up with the heaps of praise for The White Album? In its 1.5h, I can find maybe 2 songs which stand out (Obla-di and While my guitar gently weeps) but even those are not close to the top of their songwriting. Why is this album considered one of the best of the era? Is it about the lyrics? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/unsure.gif

Frownland 03-08-2021 07:41 PM

I think it's the diversity. People (I'm thinking casual listeners mainly) remember their standout tracks displaced from the bloated album and assume it's the best album.

I would've cut it down to:

Helter Skelter
Back in the U.S.S.R
Revolution 1
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
Birthday
Rocky Raccoon
Martha My Dear
Dear Prudence
Julia
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Start off heavy then mellow out. Like a fat baby.

adidasss 03-09-2021 12:25 AM

I mean I still don't get it because none of those tracks are outstanding, and they had plenty of outstanding tracks, on other albums or singles. Which is how I guess I would judge albums normally.

And what do we think about the Naked version of Let it be? Just gave it a listen, seems to be a bit of an improvement on the original, more mellow and better sequenced, to my untrained, not-a-big-fan ears. Hmm? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/unsure.gif

Idk I like both versions a lot, Get Back being my favorite Beatles track in general, but I can't really pick b/w Let it Be and Naked

Nah, I only chose great tracks. Music taste generally being variable probably explains why people have varying opinions on the album.

Helter Skelter
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

All outstanding Beatles tracks in my books. Let It Be Naked is nice as a novelty and an attempt to capture the original aesthetic of the album, but I've grown up with the original Spector-laden album and I prefer it that way.

Can't resist those obscure McCartney gems. Paul was always more experimental than given credit for. I love McCartney, McCartney II and RAM and his under-the-radar tracks throughout his career.

Eleanor Rigby 14 03-20-2021 03:54 AM

Don't know if the song has already been mentioned but The Fool On The Hill is such a beautiful one by Paul.
Every week I have a new favourite Beatles' song

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 03-20-2021 05:34 PM

Daily trivia: Composer Jerry Goldsmith got the idea for using a recorder in the theme song for the late 60's-early 70's TV drama Room 222 from Fool on the Hill.

Even when I was a kid I always thought that was a really interesting theme song.
