The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

I would have included on the list Chuck Berry because it's mostly because of him that the guitar became the most important instrument in rock (as opposed to the piano) and Elvis Presley as the most important populariser of the genre.

"Most influential"? Would have to be the Beatles. The number of great songs they wrote has got to win them that distinction. You don't hear Velvet Underground Muzak in elevators.
