Agreed. It's pretty ignorant to say you don't listen to music influenced by The Beatles, I just think The Kinks, VU, and Dylan have PROBABLY influenced better music.

I voted for Hendrix, although in hindsight I probably should have voted for The Beatles simply based on their sheer ubiquitous presence in pop music.

Having said that Hendrix was hugely influential upon guitarists and pioneered the use of distortion and effects pedals. I'd say his incursions into psychedelic were far more convincing than The Beatles.
And I don't think it would be stretching it to say that he had a massive influence on prog rock's formation and the increase in technicality that came with the genre.

The Moody Blues
Kurt Cobain and David Grohl
Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was inspired by Rubber Soul that he created Pet Sounds
Radiohead- "Karma Police" is based on "Sexy Sadie" and "Paraniod Andriod" is based on "Happiness is a Warm Gun"
Beck - "New Pollution" rips off "Tomorrow Never Knows"
The Chemical Brothers- has at least songs influenced by "Tomorrow Never Knows" including "Setting Sun" and "Let Forever Be"
Oasis
The Jam
Blur
Queen
Bono- calls the Beatles his biggest influence.

If you type on the beatles biography from answers on google. There is a list of Beatles followers which is about the combined amount of followers of the Kinks and the Velvet Underground combined.

  • Panic at the Disco
  • Ozzy Osbourne (black sabbath)
  • Richard Ashcroft (from the Verve)
  • Dave Matthews (from Dave Matthews Band)
  • Billy Joel
  • Tommy James and the Shondells
  • Jonas Brothers
  • Stone Sour
  • Cheap Trick
  • Andy Burrows (from Razorlight)
  • Roger McGuinn (from The Byrds)
  • The Ghetto Brothers

Note this is more than you asked for .. I also found many more, but not as big names. I'm sure more biggies would have come up if I'd spent a little more time, though.

Listing the bands influenced by the Beatles would obviously be a practically impossible.

Good job.

When ever was the Beatles' chord progressions stated as a reason for Dylan (or the Byrds for that matter) going electric? Folk rock was never the Beatles' idea.

And for the last time, the Beatles weren't doing anything particularly unique or groundbreaking with chord progressions in 62-65. It was just more interesting than the useless Merseybeat and other rock'n'roll/r&b acts of the same early 60s era.

The fact that there was tons of good music pre-elvis, and music that wasn't influenced by Elvis.

Right. But you can't deny that there was tons of good music influenced by Elvis as well.
