Best Classic Rock Songs

I wanted to see what you think the best Classic Rock song is! It's all opinion, and if you choose a song not on the list, put it on the thread!

Also, I can't put every great song on the poll, but I would have loved to put Rush, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, and AC/DC in the poll

EPOCH6 02-13-2015 11:10 AM

The Eagles - Hotel California

OR

Boston - Foreplay / Long Time

For a long time I've considered these two the peak of songwriting in classic rock, but I'd have a hard time arguing that Stairway to Heaven isn't equally as well written, if not better. I think your list is fine in terms of historical significance as hits, but none of the listed tracks overwhelm me like the two above.

Chula Vista 02-21-2015 08:17 AM

The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again.

Need proof?

Zombeels 02-21-2015 04:49 PM

If Happy Together by the Turtles is considered Classic Rock then it would be my choice

Black Francis 02-21-2015 08:21 PM

from your picks i chose a day in the life.

my personal picks would be 'Dream on' by Aerosmith and this one

Frownland 02-22-2015 12:10 AM

Gotta be Hendrix's 'Bold As Love'.

Plankton 03-06-2015 10:50 AM

A lot of the tunes like Stairway, Dream On, anything by the Who or Boston, etc. that get regular play on the classic rock stations around here usually get treated like background noise or the station gets changed, but when this one comes on, I crank it:

Thunder 03-06-2015 10:54 AM

Whole lotta love by Led Zeppelin. It represents what classical rock is all about in 5-6 minutes. Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones is also good

Plankton 03-06-2015 10:58 AM

Oh ****, there's a poll. Didn't see that. Gotta go with A Day In The Life for that list. Classic brilliance.

I've never been much of a Who fan but holy **** that performance. And I can't argue with the status of that track.

Agreed. "I read the news today, oh boy" always reminds me of the day John was so senselessly killed.

Apart from this list, my favorite is:

Townsend was drunk, almost out of his mind, but he kept it together just enough.

That Daltrey scream is one of the top 10 moments of ROCK.

EPOCH6 03-06-2015 12:37 PM

Townshend's double spin, ****, I couldn't pull that off sober.

ribbons 03-06-2015 12:41 PM

The one who really rocks there is Entwistle, imo. Not much of a Who fan either, but he's always been my favorite member by far. What a master.

Ya, his deep foundation is what allowed Townsend to f*ck around as much as he did on stage. But in the studio...........

ribbons 03-06-2015 12:54 PM

Yeah, but he hates Led Zeppelin!

+1. Plant's vocals always make me cringe. I'd take The Who and Kinks over Zep and The Stones.

Zep have better albums, but the Stones have better singles (although Satanic Majesties' Request is good, on par with I or II IMO), so it's a tie there.

Plant's vocals are 50/50 for me (that is, I only cringe half the time). I take The Kinks, Zep, and The Stones over The Who.

Agreed about Zep having better albums / Stones better singles. Also agree about Satanic Majesties', which is actually my favorite Stones album (I'm odd, I know. ;) It transports me to another world, which I need every now and then.).

Josef K 03-06-2015 02:58 PM

Satanic Majesties' Request is the only Stones studio album I actually listen to regularly. I wish they'd explored that direction further.

It's a good album - probably my fifth-favorite of theirs (after the four directly after it). I don't really understand liking it more than Let it Bleed or Exile though.

I'm a psych-head. Tried to get into Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and Exile, for the longest time, but they don't do anything for me.

I quite like them as a singles band, however.

Musicwhore A-Z 03-09-2015 07:49 PM

I'd say 'Bad Company' BY Bad Company FROM 'Bad Company' ( 1974 ). It should also be on the 'Bad Company' label ( :yeah:) ! But I digress. A timeless classic indeed () !

Pinkmoon 03-15-2015 08:50 PM

^^^^ I love Bad Company too...one of my top favorite bands, but in this poll I'm surprised that Gimme Shelter didn't get more votes??

I didn't get into the Jimmy Miller era Stones' albums until just a few years ago and now I love them and "get it". Each of those discs have a very unique vibe to them when listened to as a whole.

Neurotripsicks 04-25-2015 04:58 PM

Other; Jail Bait - Wishbone Ash

Hottjoj 04-28-2015 01:47 PM

1. Stones
2. Pink Floyd
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The Who
5. Kinks

Varangian3 05-02-2015 10:38 AM

Billy Squire's Lonely is the Night is definitely my favorite

Jnevill 06-17-2015 11:01 PM

Come on now - no love for Free Bird?

Zombeels 06-17-2015 11:02 PM

Turtles - Happy Together

Zero. My relationship with Free Bird is that of an acquaintance I don't particularly dislike.

This track has really soared up there as one of my favourite classic rock songs.

A Day in the Life and Gimme Shelter would be on my list but my favorite would be Strawberry Fields Forever. I should also give a shout out to All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople too.

Dude111 08-17-2018 01:24 AM

I picked other as they are ALL good!!

Metal! 10-08-2018 08:55 PM

Queen all day!

Carpe Mortem 12-09-2018 09:06 AM

I disagree with polls including an option for 'other'. I think folks either take the poll with the choices m given or don't take the poll.

Not to nitpick just being peevish. I went with All Along through Watchtower, which is an actual option.
