Maybe when you're older you'll get it. Don't you have days where you don't even want to listen to your favorite ****? Days when it just doesn't sound right somehow? And vice versa? You don't have to train yourself to listen to pop music, but you may have to "form a familiarity" to put your brain on the correct wavelength.

With as narrow a range of music as you listen to I wouldn't be all that surprised if you broke down one day and just started listening to AC/DC or Katy Perry for a month.

It's 3 chord pop. There really isn't a whole lot you need to get right before it's at least decent. Sounds like you're trying to hate it for the punk cred.
