Most of the jazz I've listened to felt like a waste of time allright.

I'm like literally right there on the 30 year mark with Cecil and Ornette. Free jazz has been the biggest constant in my listening habits. A solid appreciation for free jazz is a litmus test with me. If you get it I'll take your opinion into consideration about anything. If not, I discount opinions that are outside of their purview. Especially negative ones. Like with Bat, if he likes something I know right away it's very likely to be good. But if he doesn't like something I take it with a grain of salt. I don't care if everyone wants to call me a #FrownDickRider because this is the truth. There's a few cases where I'm not eye to eye on every single musician but I make sure I check out the stuff you rave on and almost always feel the same way.

Haters can hate y'all but Frown knows his stuff. Respect where it's due.

Eh, I usually don't like Frownland's picks. And I don't enjoy free jazz.
I tend to like Batlord, Trollheart and Man Like Monkey's music choices the most.

Yeah, I mean it's cool but your limitations are clear.

It's called 'personal tastes'.

Not really. It's also about knowledge and understanding.

It's music. First and foremost, you need two things = your ears, and time.

Nah I don't listen to much jazz so I haven't developed an ear to listen it, so while I can say that free jazz doesn't do anything for me that's less a legitimate criticism than it would be if I said the same thing about Thrash Metal Band X. I simply don't know what I'm listening to, which is fine so long as I don't portray my opinion as anything else.

free jazz is ****ing great when i'm in the mood for it but much like any other more challenging style of music, i can only stomach so much of it. while i typically respect musicians under the free jazz, avant garde, experimental, etc label more, i spend way more time listening to stuff like grime, punk and pop music.

i'm the same way with movies actually. while i absolutely love art house cinema and directors like Michael Haneke and Lars von Trier (just as an example), I spend far more time watching over the top action flicks or ****ty 80s so bad they're good horror movies.

it's a good balance of both sides that does it best for me. i do think as i listen to more and more jazz i will get sucked further and further down the rabbit hole though, it's just atm i feel like there's still so much to explore in terms of the genres i find easier to listen to.
