do they really mess up the rest of the site aside from the 'songwriting' subforum?

is the server space really that limited?

just wondering / playing devil's advocate here. i don't normally check that subforum since it's not something i'm really interested in. at the same time i don't see why people get bent out of shape by having it flooded with cliche songs. what did you people really expect? the next dylan or cohen to start gracing the site with their prose?

while it's true that some might not contribute to the rest of the site at least their contributions are still music based as opposed to the people who never seem to post outside the lounge or the social / political threads.

is it really a matter of the subforum being flooded with low quality songs or is it because some people wanted more attention for their own contributions?

It's a bit of both to be honest. Crowe, DontRunMeOver, TrampinaTux and myself all had a really good thing going here for awhile and then our work - which as actual work - was being lost amongst "lyrics" by 13 year olds writing My Chemical Romance knock offs which also managed to get more attention (which was exclusively negative.) It's was frustrating and we all slowly got fed up with it and left.

Now as a moderator I have to sit and see basically the same thing happen. You have users, such as Wifey Boozer and wolverineetc who put effort into something and then two people comment on it but deepanddarkandepressing or whatever the **** their usernames are (they're all so similar) write something angsty garbage every ten seconds and it has three pages. The comments maybe exclusively negative but it's still frustrating. This section of the forum isn't for everyone; it's for regulars. If you want to join a site exclusively to post that kind of stuff and not contribute in anyway then allpoetry.com is waiting for you to join.

Though in response to all the recent whining; I don't understand it..I deleted a bunch of threads by the same three users when I posted it and maybe enforced it for two days after that but the message was sent and it basically stopped. This thread isn't even relevant anymore. =/

I agree the subjective rules was a bit harsh, particularly in hindsight but it came out of that frustrating I explained above and again...I haven't enforced these rules since their creation.
