^ Nice tune, shame about the trousers. Half mast, like the cat just died!
Someone needs to teach them some steps too.

Going off the way you spelled favourites, I'm guessing you're American?
I'm curious because, strangely, the appreciation of smaller soul artists and labels aren't usually appreciated in the States.

...oh! That's just great.

Just when I think I have a new soul mate...he turns out to be nothing more than a spamming bastard!

^ You win some, you lose some eh

After remembering I had the Blackpool Mecca volume of the Northern Soul Story compilations, I now have a couple of new favourites myself...

^ Maybe it's just me, but this song reminds a lot of Build Me Up Buttercup, only a lot less irritating. Proper uplfiting stuff.

^ And this one inspired me to change whatever it is you call that thing that appears under your username. I absolutely love the guitar in this one.

...which always puts me in mind of this one;

Here's another from the same outfit.
Massive favourite at The Blackpool Mecca too.

^ Haven't come across that bunch before. A couple more fantastic songs all the same though. The more I listen to this kinda thing, the further a visit to the Twisted Wheel next Friday goes up the to-do list. Seems like whenever I say that something knocks the whole idea off course, so with any luck I'll see to it this time.

I can see I will have to look and listen through this thread all the way through, since I don't know a lot of the songs.

The one song I do know and love that happens to be funk/disco, is Lipps Inc's one hit wonder song, "Funkytown," from 1980. Ahh...brings back a nice feeling of childhood! The song is still doing pretty well, I'd say, because I heard it just yesterday on an Iowan radio station...and if they're still playing it in Iowa 30 years later, I'd say that means the song has lasting power.

It interests me how some songs do so well worldwide. Wikipedia says that "Funkytown reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts in 1980, also reaching number 1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and The Netherlands," and was considered disco's last stand.

After hearing the song yesterday at work, I looked it up online, since I never knew anything about who sings it. I found out that "Funkytown" was written about Minneapolis! Minneapolis, with the Mall of America, doesn't seem very funky now, I must say. But, I still love the song...I could listen to it over and over! The drumbeat and the simple light feeling of the song, plus its bouncy happiness are what make me want to listen again and again...so far, only 5...no, 6...times today!

Lipps Inc - Funkytown (1980)
