While mainstream disco can be seriously lacking, club singers like Jocelyn Brown and Loleatta Holloway put alot of soul and creativity into the scene. It helped having fine producers as well like Greg Carmichael. most of the superior musicians and bands of the club music scene were not mainstream and do not get their just due imo...

The term I generally use is "Club Music" because The Clubs played Funk, Jazz-Funk and Disco Funk. The easiest way to tell if a track was any good was whether or not it cleared the dancefloor! All the Clubgoers I met had discerning taste and wouldn't have payed out good money to listen to a load of crap anyway.

Of course it's all down to personal taste, but relating to something that Jackhammer mentioned in another thread; There are those who feel it's safer to agree with everyone else.
