Who here likes Funk/Soul music?

I'm talking Parliament, Ohio players, Bob James, Joe Tex, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Fatback Band, Earth wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Marvin ***e, Willie Bobo, Betty Davis, The Supremes, Roger Troutman and Zapp, Cymande, the meters etc.......

Anyone?

I would have to say I love the genre? But I know nothing about it. It's all about the bass. I love funk bass lines.

Dr. Luncheon Man 03-03-2004 08:06 PM

I was like you a couple of years ago. Just buy a couple funk complitations to get you started and your love for the music will blossom from there.

DJ_Jester 03-03-2004 08:14 PM

I gotta say that 70's music really has to be my favorite time period for music. Even though I don't post down here.

Dr. Luncheon Man 03-03-2004 08:25 PM

Yeah i love it too becuase it was the period were musicians started combining traditional instruments with electric instruments and synthersizers and stuff. I also love it how funk bands bak then consisted of like 15 people.

DJ_Jester 03-03-2004 08:29 PM

Dude you're so on with that. I was just thinking today how bands have shrunk down to 3 piece bands now. I was just thinking about posting about where the art of the rhythm guitar has gone. Seems like no one just plays rhythm anymore. Always the vocalist or something. But back then... damn right! It was always about putting out the best music.

I'm sure they have a lot of funk influences.

DJ_Jester 03-04-2004 06:00 PM

They definitely have that bass sound I was talking about.

Would James Brown count in this bit too then? His Bass lines could blow the wrinkles out of your granny's face!!
