re Waspstar's compilation: some pleasant music I'd likely never have heard otherwise and some songs from old faves I was not aware of. Richard Thompson ftw. This is what the 10-track thread is all about! next up: post-punk

Urban first of all I forgot how much 'Leave The Capitol' genuinely arouses me, so thanks for that, absolutely prime Fall. Only other familiar bands are Teardrops (where is the love for the Great Druid on MB?!), Orchids (have only heard 'Work') and Section 25 (the guys in khaki shorts in '24 Hour Party People' if I'm not mistaken). NOT Liquid Liquid who I confused with identical-sounding funky-ass group Medium Medium. Some great tracks here, if you have more post-punk obscurities knocking about I insist you consider a Post-Punk part 2.

I won't like jackhammer, HATED 'the New Danger' album (guitars have no place in hip-hop), but I only knew two other artists in your mix: Meat Puppets (fine choice) and Melt Banana (self-explanatory).
As for the rest... you have to appreciate a good alphabetized compilation, and their was the broad range of styles I'd expect from a Jackhammer special. I am particularly stuck on Melody Gardot (like a less ostentatious and annoying Winehouse) and Maudlin of the Well track (prog metal?).
For some reason the 'Kill the King' causes disturbing mind-pictures of an Editors/Thin Lizzy hybrid. Fortunately the tune is a belter. Top drawer (bar that track)

I thought I would finally have a go at one of these so here we go :

Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!

Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo : Orchestra of Bologna Municop Thetra

The opening music to the Scorcese classic Raging Bull. If I had this playing in my head 24/7, I still dont thin I would get sick of it.

Fifty Five Falls : Marissa Nadler

Too much emphasis was put on the word 'haunting' in reviews I read for this for me to really judge it fairly. But after hearing it for myself, I can see why it is referred to as so.

Marcus Garvey : Burning Spear

A fine start to the finest reggae album ever.

The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore : The Walker Brothers

Spector style production, baritone vocals and an almost ironic major key.

Fastlove : George Michael

Yes that's right. Possibly the finest pop song of the last 20 years. Beautiful production, around 5 different memorable hooks. If you're dubious about George, begin here.

Lazy : X-Press 2

'A moment' as it is described at the end of the song. David Byrne <3, rly.

St. Elmo's Fire : Brian Eno

My opening into the world of Eno, I hope it will act as someone elses.

Death (Crystal Castles Remix) : White Lies

I have no real love for either of these acts, yet this song seems to really in it's grip.

Untrue : Burial

Slowing down the set with some groggy, gritty dubstep is always a good move.

Tuj la Kompanar' (Les Copains d'Abord) : Georges Brassens

Never heard Chanson? it's about time you did.

Sunshine : Atmosphere
It's a feel good song. I've always loved it. Slug comes through with great lyrics, Ant comes through with great production

Anxiety : Big Krizz Kaliko
Amazing song. Krizz has so much versatility with his voice. Its absolutely amazing that he can do so much.

Trying To Find A Balance: Atmosphere
Another great, more aggressive song by Atmosphere, not any less amazing.

Call U Later : Look Daggers
Group consisting of 2Mex and Ikey Owens [of Mars Volta]. I'm digging everything I've heard from them so far. This whole album is pretty solid.

Artsy : The Grouch
You Ain't Artsier Than Me! Basically an anthem, saying that, just because you're a certain way, doesn't make you more creative than someone else. There's someone else in the world that does SOMETHING exactly the same way you do.

Guarantees : Atmosphere
I Promise. Last one. This is probably one of their best tracks yet. Amazing production on this song, really comes through. Laid back/serious tone.

Little Pills : Kabosh [Tech N9ne + Big Krizz Kaliko]
I'm really looking forward to this project. Two Rappers coming together to form a band. Of course, this is just a beat someone produced, but they're in the process of finding band members.

One Good Time : Tech N9ne
Amazingly personal track. Tech wishing he could cry, once.

Why You Ain't Call Me? : Tech N9ne
Tech N9ne waking up the industry. Saying he's one of the best. So why doesn't the Jay-Z's and Ludacris's call him for collabs and such?

Ashes To Ashley : Sadistik [ft. Mac Lethal]
Probably one of my favorite newer artists. Sadistik is the ****, as is Mac Lethal. They've came together to make an amazing track, on Sadistik's "The Balancing Act"

Regarding waspstar's compilation-
Some really good tracks there
I disliked a few as well.

Standouts were Razor Dance, Tell Me Momma and The Wheel and the Maypole.

Reno Nevada - I really wanna like this, but the backing vocals were annoying.
Penna State Line - There's just something about this that makes me dislike it.
Hold On - I'm not goona call it horrible, but god damn boring and cliched.

The rest were definitely enjoyable.

Urbans: Post Punk is a difficult thing for me, for what i've heard that i've liked there's an equal amount that i can't stand as well. Naturally there was some cool stuff (first track was awesome, the Fall always good) but some stuff that didn't work for me at all. Lots of lovely bass-lines though.

Fridays: I was always going to have respect for this because it was just so ecclectic, it takes balls to put some of those tracks there so kudos. It ranged from gorgeous (Raging Bull soundtrack, Burning Spear, Burial) confusing that i liked it (CC remix, i HATE them normally) and ugly (X Press 2, that last track). There was a surprising amount of flow to it!

Kirbys: My favourite of the bunch because i enjoyed every track, i should really pay more attention to underground hip-hop. I have Tech N9ne on my list to get especially, really good stuff.
