OK I have had given Waspstars comp a run through. Initial thoughts:

Razor Dance- Richard Thompson. Vocals reminded me of David Byrne a little which is no bad thing. However it did'nt blow me away. 'twas Okay.

Tell Me, Momma- Bob Dylan. Never heard this before. Very good tune. Enjoyed it a lot.

Mad, Mady Judy- Buzzcocks. I still need to get the first three albums as I only have their singles album. Great track.

Straight Jacket- The Attractions. Very indicative of it's time. Nothing to blow me away.

Hold On- Steve Jones. I remember when this album came out and hating everything about it. My opinion still has'nt changed

Swargmitha- The Aidenn Trilogy. Whilst sounding a little like The Cure and being fairly unoriginal, I like this big time. I will have to find some more by them.

Penna State Line- Pupa's Window.Unsure about this one. It teeters perilously close to the sort of banal mid tempo acoustic number that I don't like.

Reno, Nevada- Richard & Mimi Farina. The backing vocals eventually killed my liking this track.

The Wheel & The Maypole- XTC. One of the best U.K bands, criminally overlooked by the general public. Top band.

The Train From Kansas City- The Shangri-Las; Amazing piano riff, a perfect vocal, and for a 60's pop song, the lyrics aren't all that bad.

Urbans Obscure(ish)Post Punk Bands Who Don't Really Get Much Attention On The Forum Compilation

It's not all Joy Division , Gang Of Four and Public Image Ltd you know....

01 - Inner City Unit - Watching The Grass Grow
This seems as good a place as any to start.
This band who i've talked about a lot in the past were fronted by ex Hawkwind man Nick Turner.
This song was the first ever No 1 song in the first ever week of the Indie charts.
Taken from the album Pass Out (1980)

02 - Liquid Liquid - Cavern
Ever wondered where Grandmaster Flash got THAT bassline from?
Well now you know
Taken from the E.P. Optimo (1983)

03 - The Teardrop Explodes - Reward
Years before he was writing fantastic books about Krautrock Julian Cope wrote possibly the best post punk single ever.
(If you forget Love Will Tear Us Apart ever existed)
Taken from the album Kilimanjaro (1980)

04 - Section 25 - Dirty Disco
It wouldn't be a proper post punk compilation without a band off Factory Records.
Think Gang Of Four with a phat bassline , less sixth form politics and a lot more balls.
Taken from the album Always Now (1981)

05 - Blurt - Alouette
Spazzy jazz
Taken from the album Pagan Strings (1992)

06 - Sad Lovers And Giants - Things We Never Did
Echo & The Bunnymen with horns
Taken from the album Epic Garden Music (1982)

07 - MX-80 Sound - Tidal Wave
More spazzy jazz but with a much more obvious punk influence
Taken from the album Hard Attack (1977)

08 - Fad Gadget - Ideal World
Fad Gadget are usually known as a fine synthpop band .
However this first track off their fourth album showed that they also liked to rock out a bit too.
Taken from the album Gag (1984)

09 - Savage Republic - Next To Nothing
Savage Republic are an interesting one.
They were hugely influenced by African music and Africa was a re-occurring topic in their lyrics.
Yet they played with the same type of intensity & chaos as The Birthday Party.
Taken from the album Tragic Figures (1982)

10 - Blue Orchids - The Flood
The Blue Orchid were formed in 1979 by Martin Bramah & Una Baines from the original line up of The Fall.
A bit more melodic than The Fall but not a million miles away.
Taken from the album The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain) (1982)

11 - The Fall - Leave The Capitol
Well you didn't think they wouldn't be here.
I decided to go with this forgotten little gem off their Slates E.P.
The lyrics are about vampires but it's just a thinly veiled attack by MES on London.

I forgot to say that Waspstar's was good, some good tracks i didn't have by Dylan and the Buzz****s, though that Steve Jones song made me squirm a bit.

I think I'm about the only person in the world who genuinely likes the Steve Jones album. It's so awful and cheesy and cliched that it's good in a weird way. The same thing goes for the Attractions album (Mad About The Wrong Boy).
