You tested the waters well IMO. I have given the mixtape a few times now. It has made me realise that my listening of Zappa via Just Another Band From LA and Over-nite Sensation is far too limited. Stella is fantastic and the Mingus track is a revelation. I am off to grab Tijuana Moods at the next opportunity.

Ok, just went through Zarkos list

1. In The Kingdom Of The Blind The One-Eyed Are Kings - Dead Can Dance
I've heard this before...a great song!

2. Les Bras De Mer - Yann Tiersen
Sets a nice mood. Good stuff!

3. Mystery God - Fat Jon The Ample Soul Physician
Great laid back music. So far nothing has blown me away but the mood is really great.

4. Reascension - DJ Frane
Got a bit bored here...not much happening.

5. Son Of Mr Green Gene - Frank Zappa
A much needed shift...Not my favorite zappa song, but yah, can't go wrong with anything from Hot Rats. Amazing song and album.

6. Stella - Kashiwa Daisuke

Thirty fucking six minutes of dreamy, ambienty, post-rocky wtfness.
First 10 minutes - sets a nice mood, with a slow build up.
Next 10 minutes - Tempo changes a bit. Kinda needed i guess.
Next 10 minutes - I'm already lost...i don't remember what happened
Last 6 minutes - Similar to the first 5 minutes...slows down a bit.
Definitely the highlight for me!

7. Stoney Street - Amon Tobin
I've heard this song before...good stuff. Goota love that bass. Don't know where it's taken from though.

8. The Dawn (feat. Shawn J. Period) – DJ Krush
Again, nothing that would make me go WTF or any such thing, but nicely continues on the mood set so far.

9. Vargtimme - Helios
Kinda slept off here

10. Ysabel’s Table Dance - Charles Mingus
Superb song! Love the Hispanic touch it has. Again, the mood is wonderful.

I would give this compilation an 8/10. It does have a few dull moments, but overall, very laid-back jazzy ambient stuff, with a nice atmosphere. Not much diversity, but that's not a bad thing here
A bit too long maybe, but I'm used to that anyways.

Edit: The DJ Frane track feels much better after a second listen...don't know why i got bored of it in the first place.

Note that a lot of stuff was considered, but since it's pretty popular stuff that I figure most of you own anyways (Mars Volta, Pink Floyd), I didn't put it on here.

1. At The Drive-In "Give It A Name"
Well, At The Drive-In would have to be my favorite non pop punk band. This song is off of their 1997 El Gran Orgo EP. It's one of my favorite ATDI songs, and therefore it lands on this compilation.

2. The Northern Pikes "Dream Away"
They're some Canadian rock band, and I have a used copy of one of their CDs. I like quite a few songs on the CD, and this would probably be my favorite. I really like the vocals in this song, as well as the lyrics. I don't listen to much of this band anymore, but once in a while I'll put this song on, or stick that CD in and listen to my favorite songs.

3. Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster "Tough As John Jacobs"
I don't know where to begin. This song is everything I love about Maylene. Sweet riffs, a catchy chorus, and Dallas Taylor's gruff vocals. This is a rockin' tune.

4. The Wallflowers "Sleepwalker"
This is the first time a Wallflowers song will appear on this compilation. This time, a more upbeat song. I think the this song represents the poppier music of The Wallflowers. It's catchy pop-rock with some nice riffs.

5. Sunny Day Real Estate - Theo B
I really need to listen to more SDRE. This is a good song of theirs, a more indie-rock song. I wasn't going to include Seven or In Circles because everyone knows those. What can be said? It's a good song.

6. Texas Is The Reason "Johnny On The Spot"
Okay, this is the only song that I REALLY like by Texas Is The Reason. Their other stuff is pretty good, but this just blows all that stuff out of the water.

7. My Favorite Band "Racer Why"
Yes, that's what the band is called. I was on iLike on Facebook one time and saw that this was a free MP3 and had jsut been uploaded. I downloaded it and loved it. It's funky, rockin', and just a great instrumental track. I thought I should download some of their other stuff today, but it's just random pop punk stuff. This is what they should be making more of.

8. Alexisonfire "Rough Hands"
This was a pretty popular song off of their latest album. It's a slow song. It starts off with Dallas' pretty singing, and then the screaming cuts in. It's got some great lines in it and I hate describing these songs.

9. Billy Talent "This Is How It Goes"
You probably know them for that Fallen Leaves song with the weird music video. This song is off of their first album and is one of their more aggressive songs. It features some pretty tight instrumental sections, and one of my favorite Billy Talent rhythms. I particularly love Ben's screaming during the chorus.

10. The Wallflowers "God Says Nothing Back"
Well, I can see why The Wallflowers were proud of this track. It's a slow, dark, folky song. Jakob Dylan's voice suits the song very well. There's a lot of great little hooks in this song. It's only number 6 on "Rebel, Sweetheart" but it's a great way to end this compilation.

Urbans:

Inner City Unit. I obviously hear Hawkwind when I hear this and it kind of spoils my enjoyment because it sounds like them doing Post Punk and it does'nt mix well .

Liquid Liquid. I have been after this sucka for ages. Great track.

Teardrop Explodes. I forgot how good this track was. Classic.

Section 25. Just did'nt do it for me.

Blurt. Same again i'm afraid.

Sad Lovers & Giants. Great band. I have an album of theirs ( Headland) and definitely want more.

MX-80 Sound. Hated the production on this one. Sorry.

Fad Gadget. Took me a while to decide if I liked it. I did

Savage Republic. Angular spiky sound. I dig.

Blue Orchids. Hated the vocals.

The Fall. Funny. you have never mentioned these before
