The most perfect song written about being a starving artist ever and it talks about the prince himself beating the shit out of you.

Even you must want to quit
Like if you hear a record by Bob Dylan or Neil Young or whatever,
You must start thinking "People like me, but I won't be that good ever."
And I'm sure the thing is probably Dylan himself too stayed up some nights
Wishing he was as good as Ginsberg or Camus.

2. Mount Eerie "Wooly Mammoth's Absence"
One of the most touching yet profound songs ever written.

It's back to the world I go, back to little girls and shows,
And their worldly woes, all unfurling clothes
Will I carry myself slowly enough to remember?
I sit on a dark rock doing nothing, still just crowded in
There's the love in flesh and bones.

3. Carissa's Wierd "One Night Stand"
Mistakes can turn out beautiful.

4. Sexton Blake "Rose Parade"
I promised myself I wouldn't put Elliott Smith on here but Sexton Blake does manage to make this his own while remaining true to the song.

The trumpeter's obviously been drinking
Cause he's fucking up even the simplest lines,
I'd say it's a sight that's quite worth seeing
It's just that everyone's interest is stronger than mine.

5. The Mountain Goats "Dance Music"
This song hits me like no song ever has before.

6. Daniel Johnston "Some Things Last a Long Time"
This is the most honest and painfully direct song ever written.

7. Damien Jurado "Johnny Go Riding"
The tale of a hermit and a cowboy.

The song that is basically my philosophy.

Pushing forward highway miles are cheaper than in town,

The city's full of bullshit, I don't sleep there anymore,
I don't want its schmoozey eagerness I don't want to be its whore,
