I've got 20 tracks picked out, but it mostly favors their hits and older songs. Is that what you meant earlier when you said you just wanted a collection of their best songs?

BTown 05-09-2010 04:17 PM

I;m thinking of doing a Folk Punk One and a Weezer one (Matt Sharp Era/ Everything including Pinkerton and before)
Would anyone be intersted?

Violent & Funky 05-09-2010 04:26 PM

Folk punk definitely.

You would be limiting yourself severely with that Weezer one though...

James 05-09-2010 04:35 PM

Yes with the Weezer one the people should just get the first 3 albums not really any point in a comp go ahead with Folk Punk though.

Why do people fall over themselves regarding Nick Drake? I just don't get it. I don't mind some of his tunes but people are doing virtually the same thing now who don't get the time of the day.

1. he's indie music, indie music makes new fans every day it doesn't matter how old the music is
2. i just started listening to him more
3. i didn't "fall over" for him i simply couldn't find mp3s of his music
4. and f**k you, don't take that in the worst way, but i just wanted a nick drake guide, i didn't need to hear you voice your discontent for him, if you want to do that i'm sure there's about 100 threads for expressing hate towards certain music

Violent & Funky 05-10-2010 01:27 PM

I still love you, Jackhammer...

Where is this notion coming from that Primus has so many crappy songs?

BTown 05-10-2010 02:58 PM

From what I've heard it seem slike primus is really hit or miss for me. I've heard some really good stuff and some really ****ty stuff.

Pretty much every song has a killer bass line, so do you know what aspect it is that turns you off to some of their songs?

BTown 05-10-2010 05:03 PM

Yeah I agree there are a lot of cool basslines but that isn't enough to make me like a song. I guess sometimes it's just the singing, stuff like Laquer Head and Pudding Time annoy the me. I think Stuff like Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver and Tommy The Cat are great though.

'Lacquer Head' and 'Pudding Time' are two of my favorites, and 'Lacquer Head' will definitely be in my comp haha...

Balls man, well I'm sure I'll find something I like.

Even though I'm not extremely educated in it I was thinking of making a Mathrock/Maybe Noise Rock comp unless someone else wants to. if I feel liek I'd be able to do the genre justice but I'd get a lot of comments like "No "so and so?"

Violent & Funky 05-10-2010 06:25 PM

I know we all can be critical sometimes, but any comp is better than no comp and I love noise rock so that sounds groovy...

'Lacquer Head' is considered sort of a return-to-form song for Primus so it's easily my favorite off of Antipop, and 'Pudding Time' is a classic Primus tune...

BTown 05-10-2010 06:27 PM

Akrught thanks for showing interest dude, I'll get started tomorrow

The Beginner's Guide To...

Primus

http://www.primusville.com/band/pixa.../bandjanes.jpg

To Defy The Laws Of Tradition
Mrs. Blaileen
John The Fisherman
Lacquer Head
Tommy The Cat (Live)
Too Many Puppies
My Name Is Mud
Shake Hands With Beef
Jerry Was A Race Car Driver
Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers
DMV
Mr. Knowitall
Wynona's Big Brown Beaver
Welcome To This World
Fish On

Primus sucks!

With Primus announcing a late summer tour and possibly a return to the studio, it seems like the right time to make a Primus comp. I have included 15 tracks that span each of Primus's six studio albums, including one track off of their live debut, Suck On This ('Tommy The Cat' is their most legendary live song). Their later material is sampled less because it is less to my liking and honestly lower quality. I'm more of a Frizzle Fry/Sailing The Seas of Cheese guy too so Pork Soda isn't focused on as much. Enjoy!

Math Rock

[CENTER]http://laserbeast.com/photos/smallin/lb19.jpg

"Math Rock is a relatively new sub-genre of rock music, characterized by complex, atypical rhythms (often including irregular stopping and starting), frequent use of irregular time-signatures, and dissonant, angular guitars. Math rock peaked in the mid-’90s, when groups like Polvo and Chavez had small but dedicated followings among indie rockers on college campuses.

It is related to post-rock, a result of a shared scene of origin. There are differences to be noted between early post-rock and math-rock as well, though: whereas post-rock has distinct jazz influences, math rock is more dense and complex, filled with difficult time signatures and intertwining phrases. The style is a little more ‘rockist’ than post-rock, since it’s usually played by small, guitar-led bands."

Track/Band
For Respect - Don Caballero (aka Don Cab)
My Black Ass - Shellac
You Don't Have To Kick It - We Versus The Shark
Blue Fly Green Fly - Sleeping People
Look A Ghost - Unwound
Nailed To The Blank Spot - Chavez
Captain Caveman - Lightning Bolt
The Most Trustworthy Tin Cans - Maps & Atlases
Golden Brown - Drive Like Jehu
Sure Shot - Polvo
Tonto - Battles
Emilie Sagée's Secret - Giraffes? Giraffes!
Republic Of Rough And Ready - Hella
Little Bubble, Where You Going - Piglet
Good Morning, Captain - Slint

I'm aware some bands like Drive Like Jehu are kind of iffy when it comes to labeling them as Math Rock but I still thought it fit well. Same goes for lightning bolt, I just threw in my favorite song of theirs for ****s.

James 05-12-2010 02:19 PM

^Pretty solid comp, but I wont download as I already have most of it.

Don't be on a music forum with opinions then if you don't want to hear. Do you like Nick Drake? Obviously yes, so why worry what I think?

I'm currently on a bit of a bender with his music at the minute, and I've got nothing much ese to do at the minute, so I'm gonna make an Elvis Costello mix. Plus, the original one I did was a bit vague, so this one'll be more thorough.

Might as well get it online as soon as possible, so I'll have the link here in about an hour (hopefully).

Bulldog 05-19-2010 03:06 PM

So, here they are then. Bigger mixes than I'd first planned, but it's a nice little mix of the hits and the more obscure numbers.

Anyway, hope the rather large tracklistings don't put you off. Enjoy...

Strange, it looks fine to me. If it's saying the file's temporarily unavailable, try again a bit later - megaupload often does that for some reason.

i really like the primus comp. thanks!

Slowdive are a band which have grown on me immensely in the past year to become one of my favourite bands. Active from 1989 to 1995 they released three albums: Just For a Day (1991), Souvlaki (1993) and Pygmalion (1995), a scattering of EPs and singles, and Blue Day (1992) a compilation made up of their early EPs. Their soft ethereal vocals and heavy use of guitar effects combine with melodic hooks to create a calm, relaxing, dream-pop sound. With so many great songs to choose from I could have included more, but I wanted to keep it short and sweet and leave other great tracks for you to discover on you own. Download, plug-in, relax and enjoy.

1. Slowdive
2. Machine Gun
3. Celia’s Dream
4. Catch The Breeze
5. Souvlaki Space Station
6. Blue Skied an’ Clear
7. Alison
8. Morningrise
9. When The Sun Hits
10. Crazy For You
