The Photography Thread

So, due to me recently coming into a large sum of $$$, I have decided to pursue a long-loved venture. I'm getting a camera & taking a ****load of pictures. This thread is basically here for those posters who enjoy photography and want to post the pictures they take. It's kinda like the Member Picture Gallery, except it doesn't have to be a picture of you.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-20-2007 12:21 PM

I did the same thing a few weeks ago but not had time to really do much snapping yet.

I did practice on the cat though.

This was taken with my ancient camera (3.1mp-camera phones are better!), the foreground was'nt particulary in focus, but I like it.

^ How do you cope.
That would play havoc with my OCD.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-20-2007 01:44 PM

They're all uploaded onto my hard drive now.

Piles of CDs falling on the floor because the one I want is right that the bottom are a thing of the past :D

jackhammer 08-20-2007 01:44 PM

How can you find anything in that lot? I am an anorak. All my music and dvds are in alphabetical order. I am sad I know!

Gentleman Johnny WTF is a crepusculo? Thanks for the admiration!

its spanish for a sunset, or more like what you've got there. When the sky turns pink & purple and looks really cool.

Say, doesn't Richard work for some photo selling firm? Can you recommend some best buy cameras? Like semi pro, that can take clear pictures in the dark and doesn't cost like a car?

The cheapest semi pro camera I can think of is the Nikon D40. You can usually get one complete with an 18/55mm lens for around just over £300 (Approx US$600).
Amazon.co.uk: Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera (18-55mm Lens Kit): Electronics & Photo

The thing with semi pro cameras is you basically build the kit up yourself so how it reacts to light basically depends on whether you want to spend £200 on a lens or £2000 on a same size lens. The more expensive the lens , the bigger appeture settings you can achieve thus letting in more light when you take the picture making it clearer , plus they'll have other things like built in image stabilizers.

It works out a lot cheaper if you are starting out to but a kit with a 18/55mm lens included. they tend to be around £60/70 more expensive than just the camera bodies on their own , but you need a lens anyway because the body doesn't have one.

What I did myself was save up for a mid range semi pro (I got a Canon EOD 30D) which cost around £600 that came with a 18/55mm & I also spent around that much on a 70/200mm lens with an image stabilizer. It sounds a lot of money to spend but i'm now pretty much sorted for a good few years with that set up.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 08-23-2007 12:56 AM

I've been dabbling in photography. Until recently most my art was drawn/painted, but I've started taking photos and contributing to them on photoshop. I'll put some screens up sometime since I don't use deviant*** anymore.

I live at the green place with the lake and trees and all that, not the giant fields. It is pretty nice though.
