went to a hockey analytics lecture hosted by a guy who works part time for the oilers. Nothing really I didn't already know, but still there was a much larger turnout then I would've expected. Some of the actual oilers brass was, which I'm glad to see as it shows they at least want to learn. Its going to be very interesting to see this stuff evolve in the coming years.

The lecturer even threw in a shot at Carlyle and the leafs :D

I thought of you when I saw that. Someone shared it over Facebook. Pretty neat to see how far those two have come.

lmao. 7 losses in a row now, so goodbye playoffs! I'm just hoping that they win some games, so that this city doesn't implode or something. At least the Raps are doing decently and there are high hopes for the Jays (although we've been saying that since the '92 World Series, lol).

Leafs are at home tonight versus the Red Wings. On Thursday I will seeing them again versus the Bruins, with my mom. Also to try and get a glimpse of Patrice Bergeron... :o:

Yeah, my Silvertips were unceremoniously dumped from the first round by the hated Thunderbirds. I'm seriously contemplating going down there (70 mile/112 km round trip) & rooting as hard as I can for Kelowna, & if they advance (unlikely) rooting for the winner of the Portland/Victoria series, esp. in the likely event that it's the Winterhawks, whom I'm now rooting for with all my might. I root for Portland against every team except the Silvertips. They were without question the best team I saw all year, Kelowna included.

Thuck the Funderbirds

Guess which team this is. Woof.

Team of the Decade?

So far into the 2010's the Blackhawks have 2 cups (2010 & 2013) so to this point they'd be the team of *this* decade but there's 6 cup finals to go.

The only teams with more than one in the 2000's was the Devils and Red Wings, each with two., Who would you pick? The Scotty Bowman 2002 Wings were a pretty different team than the Mike Babcock 2008 team, it's really hard to say anyone ruled the decade.

Much the same with the '90's, which was bookended by the '91 & '92 Penguins and the '97 & '98 Red Wings, both coached by Scotty Bowman (who took over in Pittsburgh prior to the sad passing of Bob Johnson). I do have great memories of the bitter rivalry that the Yzerman/Lidstom/Shanahan Red Wings had with the Sakik/Forsburg/Roy Colorado Avalanche in those years. I think the late '90's Wings had to beat better teams than the Lemieux/Stevens/Coffey Penguins of the early decade so I'll go with the Wings.

The '80's were dominated by two VERY different teams, the bruising four-straight cup winning Bossy/Potvin/Billie Smith Islanders and the '84, '85, '87' '88 high-paced Oilers of Gretzky/Messier/Kurri. They played each other in the finals in '83 (Islanders) and '84 (Oilers), I guess I will go with The Great One but that Islanders team was so dominant in the early decade it's a really close call.

The 60's and '70's were ruled by the Canadiens, nothing to discuss there.

I hate to say this BD but I just saw some Leafs low-lights against Winnipeg last night. They look like they're just mailing it in on defense, allowing the Jets to do just about anything it wanted in the Leafs zone. They're just not hitting, not blocking out, not clearing, not trying.

No that's just how theyve played all season.

I haven't seen the Leafs all year, but prior to this 10 game skid they were in 2nd place in their division

Paul Smeenus 04-06-2014 11:47 AM

^ My point being the Leafs couldn't have been in that position had they been playing like THAT all year.

So....tell me about them Oilers...
