I don't disagree with you. my sport is hockey, and nhl culture is hilariously anti-personality that it's gotten to the point where if you aren't cardboard you'll get roasted by the fans and media

If Cus D'Amato hadn't died, Tyson would have gone down at the greatest in history. D'Amato took him in as a kid, not only as his trainer, but as a father figure. Notice how gracious he is in most of those clips.

Once D'Amato was gone, Tyson fell under the spell of Don King and Las Vegas and his career and life completely fell apart. He became a complete dick and started getting beat, regularly.

Not sure about all this.

He had like 11 fights when Cus died, then won 26 in a row before he lost to Douglas (in other words he won more fights without Cus than with him, before he suffered his first loss).

And he only lost six fights in his entire career (Pacquiao has lost more than that currently), three of them at the end i.e. not his peak years. Two of his 90s losses were against the same fighter (Holyfield).

But his life was turned inside out once he fell under the spell of King. He simply became an egotistical dick - which ultimately led to his fall from grace.

Not denying that just don't buy the idea that he was getting smashed all over the shop because Cus died, the Douglas fight was horrendous but losing two fights in his peak to the same fighter just says Holyfield was the better fighter and most boxers tend to lose at the end of their careers, that's when they know it's time to retire.

I know nothing about the history, but from just watching a full knockout video with dates, he was going ape for a good long while, and then once he won the Championship all of a sudden it's half a year till his next knockout. I know nothing about any of this, but did his supposed turn come when he won the heavyweight championship?
