I posted this to the ads thread, but this was the play that told me that we were gonna win, that the #1 defense would dominate the #1 offense

Seattle's secondary was swarming, all Manning could do was throw stupid checkdowns that resulted in murders like this. I feel bad for the entire Denver organization honestly.

That was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in sports, period. There was not one element of Seattle's game that wasn't firing on all cylinders. I give almost all credit to them, although I have to say that Denver's execution was flat-out embarrassing. Manning was completely off, their receivers weren't getting any separation and D. Thomas, despite the TD and record reception numbers, had multiple boneheaded plays. Worst of all was their defense though, who simply couldn't make a tackle.

I really think this exposed Denver though. They could not have had an easier schedule this year, and this is what happens when they get matched up against a power from the NFC. I would have taken the great defensive teams like San Fran, Carolina and maybe even Arizona over them, plus I think Green Bay and New Orleans would have been favourites over them.

Wrong, Denver were the favorites against Seattle. That's how amazingly Seattle played and how poorly the Broncos performed. Denver still has an excellent team and will undoubtedly be in contention again next year. If they get to the Super Bowl and face anyone other than Seattle/San Fran (the only teams with good enough defenses to screw with Manning that badly, I don't think Carolina has a good enough secondary to beat Peyton), they will probably win.

well remember the favorite/underdog/point spread stuff is all just vegas gamblin stuff

dont reach too much to conclusions i mean maybe san fran coulda beat denver but they didnt get to the superbowl in some cheap way cause of their schedule. they beat the teams put in front of them and they werent winning 17-14 on last second fgs. they were killin teams

Not talking about Vegas odds, I'm just talking about how I think they matched up. Denver's biggest test this year (both overall and defensively) was probably a KC team that may very well have been a fluke. Yeah, there was New England as well, but we all know how banged up the Patriots were, especially when considering that Talib went down early.

Just take a look through their schedule though. Did they play anyone that was really that great of a team?

vs. Ravens
@ Giants
vs. Raiders
vs. Eagles
@ Cowboys
vs. Jaguars
@ Colts (loss)
vs. Redskins
@ Chargers
vs. Chiefs
@ Patriots (loss)
@ Chiefs
vs. Titans
vs. Chargers (loss)
@ Texans
@ Raiders

The NFC teams they faced, while still being the weakest division in the NFC, were playing horrible when the Broncos faced them as well. The Broncos weren't tested all year.

I'm not questioning the validity of them making the Superbowl or anything, I'm just saying they had a very easy path there, and them being in for a rude awakening when facing the team that had to battle its way to the top of the NFC isn't all that shocking.

Paul Smeenus 02-04-2014 08:44 PM

Actually Seattle opened as about two point favorites, but money came down hard on Denver so Vegas adjusted the spread to favor the Broncos.
