Skateboarding

There was no thread about this amazing activity/sport!:nono:
I'm not very good, I can do a few various flip tricks, but that's about it. I'd like to know who the best skater on here is.

What brands do you guys favor for boards/gear/shoes etc.?

Right now I'm using this:

With these trucks:

I'm a on again off again skater, but i've been doing it since the 5th grade so I know my way around a board.

Right now im using a Flip Geoff Rowley Motorhead deck (i cant find a pic of it but its the gold and black one), some Grind King lows for trucks that used to be goldish orange but the paint his since been chipped away, mob griptape, 52mm spitfire wheels, and some destructo bearings.

Fruitonica 12-14-2008 03:44 AM

I think I started skating the first year of highschool, when I was around 13, so I guess I kept it up for about 4 years.
But I was always a very slow learner, and probably only skated about once a week or so, so I progressed very slowly. I only really took it up because my friends skated all the time, was never very passionate. I haven't been skating for the last six or so months, although I might pick it up again soon.

My only consistent tricks were the super basics, shuvits, kickies, heels, varials, bigspins flat bar boardslides and small variations on those.
My best consistent tricks were probably cabs and pop shuvit tailgrabs. I never really bothered with switch or nollie at all, haha.

sweet_nothing 12-14-2008 10:31 PM

Skating switch is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

My fav brands:

Shoes: When it comes to shoes I'm a pretty big Vans fanyboy but Ive also enjoyed skating Emerica
Decks: Ive mostly skated flip, but Bakers are good and I think the next board I get will be a Plan B

Anybody on here skate vert? Ive never met anybody thats really into it, I tried once and almost broke my tail bone

Farfisa 12-15-2008 05:14 AM

I've never been on a skateboard in my life... I guess that means I'm a loser.

Fraig 12-15-2008 12:51 PM

I skated a bit in middle school, but just picked it up again last summer.

I have a couple Element boards, I couldn't tell you what the other parts are though...

For shoes I like Etnies and Emerica.

Alfred 12-15-2008 01:03 PM

I've skated since I was seven, but most of those years were on crappy boards, and just fooling around. I am a very slow learner too.

I busted my first really good deck in September, it was a West49 deck. I was off skating for a while, until I decided to take one of my ol' shitters and stick my Speed Demon trucks and wheels on it. Then I nearly busted the nose off that one, and now it's just this flimsy thing... my bearings are ABEC-7's. I skate in Lakai Cairo Foster 3's right at the moment, but I have a pair of size 10 Emerica's waiting for me next spring, along with my Ripzone deck that I still have to get gripped up.

I can do indys and the odd shuvvit/popshuvvit. I wanna get on the rock to fakie in the spring, and hopefully I'll learn a grind/flip trick or two.

FaSho 12-15-2008 01:06 PM

I'm working on my Indy, I've almost got it down. Can't drop in and do it yet though.

Alfred 12-15-2008 01:08 PM

Whaddya mean?

FaSho 12-15-2008 01:14 PM

This is what I cannot do:

Alfred 12-15-2008 01:21 PM

Oh, like indy on a slope?

anticipation 12-15-2008 02:15 PM

i grew up around some of the sickest kids, all my friends were sponsored except me.

now they've all quit except one, who was the best so that makes sense.

khfreek 12-15-2008 03:42 PM

Did you want to be sponsored?

If I skated, I wouldn't <_< Not everyone wants to make a career out of their hobbies.

anticipation 12-15-2008 04:17 PM

being sponsored means that you recieve product from the company for being good, and you are expected to wear said product while skating.

i always thought it would be sweet to be sponsored, but i never really tried hard enough. i just used to skate with my friends and drink beers because it was fun.

FaSho 12-15-2008 04:18 PM

I know two people who are sponsered, they're sponsered by really small-scale brands though. i don't even know the names.

You don't really have to turn it into a career. A lot of my friends have small shop sponsorships, which basically means they get free stuff, no responsibilities (apart from skating it and telling people about the shop).
A lot of shop owners simply like to reward the people who are good because they drive the local scene.

No, if you TRIED skateboarding, but your skateboard was from Wal-Mart, and thus fell a few times, almost breaking your neck - THAT's being a loser.

FaSho 12-16-2008 02:27 PM

Wal-Mart boards have suprisingly nice trucks.

Alfred 12-16-2008 03:48 PM

I once owned a Wal Mart board. The wheels didn't take you anywhere.

Really? I tried skating my friends brothers and broke them in a day. I got in big trouble with his mom :(

FaSho 12-16-2008 04:39 PM

Well the wheels are the worst part about them, but it's a really chep way to get some good trucks. Definatley not the best, but a lot better then you would excpect.

Fruitonica 12-16-2008 08:12 PM

I doubt they're actually much good, but probably a smart purchase.

FaSho 12-17-2008 04:50 PM

One of the best skating songs ever.

Alfred 12-17-2008 07:20 PM

Take a look at that!
See them copyright police?
My country can't view.

phantom133pz 01-27-2009 09:16 AM

Please, don't call Wal-Mart trucks good.

Currently riding:
-Asylum Blank Deck (My Element fiberlight broke recently :( )
-Grind King Low Series Checkers trucks
-Lucky hardware or something... don't remember
-Element Trinity bearings
-Spitfire wheels dunno what they're called but I doubt anyone here cares

I won a contest at Asylum Skate Shop and I could have been sponsored. It's free stuff, but I don't like their boards and you have to ride them. I'd say I'm still somewhat decent, though I don't skate as much as I did.

Roemilca 01-27-2009 09:51 AM

I have a couple of boards.
I use my Element Helium BAM as a vert board, and then I have a shop deck, a Speed Demon, that I use for street.
I'm not too good, though. I can manual for about fifteen seconds without any trouble, that's about the best I can do though.
My favorite skating shoes are the ones I currently have, Emerica Reynald's 3's.
I hate DC's for skating purposes, they're too big.

Guybrush 02-04-2009 11:09 AM

I used to skate when I was a teenager. I can't remember what brands I used to skate, although I remember my first proper expensive board was a flip. You couldn't buy them in a store here, so we ordered everything from USA .. Pop Shove it was my signature trick.

It's a great sport! Capitalism surely has it's claws in.

Alfred 02-04-2009 06:21 PM

I miss skating...

the other say I was practicing on one of my old junkers in the shop. I landed a few pop shuvvits, indys... I think I'll be pretty good when spring rolls in.

coryallen2 02-05-2009 06:48 AM

jdm11b 02-25-2009 03:35 PM

I thought skateboarding was dead until I moved West. Most towns have a skatepark out here. You see skaters everywhere on college campuses- even if they aren't doing tricks or anything, it's nice to see it as an acceptable form of transportation.

ixtlan22 02-25-2009 03:59 PM

I haven't skated in ages but I've been thinking of buying a new board this year. It would be a blast to get back into but I ****ed my back up pretty bad as a kid. I just might risk it.
