How did they rebuild? They just continued with the same squad of players and manager and just put the defeat behind them as any decent football team would do.

How did they overtake England? Both lost to Brazil at the WC 2002, England just went out earlier becuase they played Brazil earlier in the knockout phase.

They changed their style of play, brought through a new set of players and worked far harder at the top level than England did at WC 06 or the Euro 08 qualifiers, and have had a far stronger team spirit than England.

Germany will need to straighten the **** up. I reckon they will still defeat England, but today's performance was very poor.

Really?

The WC06 I seem to remember was most of the Germany fans screaming for Klinsmann's head and being totally surprised they got as far as they did with the team they had.

They never changed their style of play and the squad remained practically the same. Two or three players dropped out through injury (Nowotny and Deisler) but it was the same pool of players that contested WC 2002 that lost 5:1 to England qualifying.

WC 2006 is not a good analogy as they were hosts and had home advantage, the only match that they shone in was the upset over Argentina apart from that they were quite ordinary but of course very fit. England had terrible keepers in their 2008 campaign and Germany didn`t.

I`ll grant that their will and team spirit are second to none and carries them well beyond their capabilities, and gets them to a huge amount of finals........Which more than often they lose.
