Spider silk has more tensile strength than steel. It would make ideal fabric but simply isn't plentiful enough. A garment made from spider silk would be impossible for the average person to afford. Reconstructed image of a fossilized spider preserved in amber hundreds of millions of years ago. While it may look like an oil painting, this is a fossilized specimen from China several million years old. Trapdoor spider classified as Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. Yes, it is named after Neil Young--for which he is quite proud. |
