+1. Costa is actually a pretty physical guy and he dwarfs Lukaku in scoring. Some pundits believe he faced inferior teams in regards to physicality, but he did have to play Madrid and Barcelona which boast some pretty decent defenders. Lukaku has the advantage in playmaking with his assists total, but he doesn't have the intangibles that Costa showed last year. Should be an interesting season.

ftr I've included Costa in a FF team I have started so if he flops now I can confirm I will be slightly annoyed and not really do anything about it.
Included Delph, Okore and Grealish too, my bias is going to see me have a Moyes-esque season. |

I was never one of those age people when it came to people delivering the goods. I thought we were discussing the ability to enhance a team not the age of a person. Surely he will have more time to prove himself, but I'd rather have Costa at this point strictly for his ability to put the ball in the net.

My point is that Lukaku is not nearly the player he promises to be as opposed to Costa who has probably peaked. See, at this point only one of the two players has a proven record of scoring in the Premier League, many big names have come into England with great scoring levels and not measured up, heck many players have done this for Chelsea Shevchenko, Crespo, Eto'o, Kezman, Pizzaro, Quaresma and even Torres who had a proven scoring record in England, couldn't get it done. Why would anyone think Costa would be any different. Arguably the only striker who has performed for Chelsea in the last 10 years is Didier Drogba. Also, Chelsea paid £18m to sign Lukaku when he was a complete unknown, that Everton paid only £10m more three years later after he is a regular for his country and has proven himself in the Premier League is a great piece of business. Mourinho will be kicking himself come this time next year (if he still has a job) |

Nobody is saying Lukaku is Ballon d'Or winner 2014, just that the fee was not as bad as some are making out. Carroll 35m, Lallana 25m, Fellaini 27.5m, Downing 20m... ffs compared to those it's a steal and a statement signing. Even for prospect players compare it to Shaw 30m at 18 years old is not as proven as Lukaku, Rio cost 30m over a decade ago and was quality but 30m 11 years ago must be twice that or more now. Everton are laughing if they get the same service, then it looks like a masterstroke.
Diego Costa has had his one great season, **** knows if he will do the same in England but Atleti got to the CL final off their mean defence and he was awful at the World Cup. By the way he was playing in the Spanish second division at Lukaku's age. I am expecting him to do well ftr this is Chelsea's fourth attempt at this kind of signing at least surely this time they will get it right. And the season has started, also #in |
