I suppose which hand you use for the snare is all dependent on how you feel most comfortable.
I played drums on a few different bands, and played a few different ways. I'm left handed, but I played drums right handed, meaning, my right hand crossed over the top of my left, and played the high-hat, while my left hand kept time on the snare. However, sometimes, just for fun, I would put the snare & high-hat on the other side of the kit, and my hand's wouldn't cross. My right would still play the high-hat, left playing the snare, and they didn't cross. Fortunately for me, I could play ther foot-bass equally well with either foot, so switching sides was never an issue. Find what's comfortable.
