Speaking for myself, I dont have high demands.
I am a fan of 'the song' more than anything and whilst appreciative of good guitar playing I see guitar playing as an enjoyable means to an end rather than the sole end in itself.
I'm not a tone obsessive and my technical ability doesnt and will never justify an expensive custom guitar. Punk is the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place and it still resonates with me 20 years later. What someone like Billy Childish or Tom Waits or whoever can achieve with limited and basic instrumentation has always moved me more than the awful widdlers like Via, Satriani, Petrucci, or dinosaur bores like Clapton.
Different strokes for different folks isnt it?

I feel that! We do have one thing working for us though. If you buy a used guitar for a decent price your almost guaranteed to make that money back or more when you sell it. Thanks to that iv gotten to own a hell of a lot of different gear

You sir are lucky. But to call some of the most talented musicians of our time widdlers is a bit harsh.

Petrucci in particular is a monster, both compositionally and technically.

Agree. I just cant take Dream theater. They opened for Maiden this summer and no one even went in to watch them.

Liquid Tension experiment and John petrucci solo stuff combined is only 3 albums, grab it all.

Damage control is a particularly awesome song.

I really want a Gibson Thunderbird IV Electric Bass Guitar, it just looks so nice and all the bands that I know that use this kind of bass it just sounds so great.

i want all Peavey,a blend of old and new.I used an active millenium 5string in a band i used to be in and i loved it.It played great, sounded great,i was even pleased with how it sounded after 2months of weekend shows without changing strings,i turned the knobs just right and it still rocked, and this is thru one of those 400watt behringer amps.I dig those peaveys, cheap but cool.and i want a mark4 bass amp.2of em,powering cabs with black widows in em,2x10s and a 15 in each cab.I think i could cover alot of ground with that, but i'd hate to ****in haul it!
