i am a professional trumpet player, and i do agree with him

if you are playing the trombone in a band with more than 5 or 6 members, you will ALWAYS take the back seat to the trumpets (except for solos)

it is also easier to play notes on a trumpet faster than a trombone (unless you want your arms to fall off)
the trombone is also featured in hundreds of ska songs (like the trumpet), so if you want that genre, give her a shot (simply my advice)

once you play any brass instrument, its not that hard to switch, but it depends on how musical you are.

Trumpet....faster solos....you'll pop your arm out of socket trying to do some fast solos on a trombone..hah

I choose trumpet personally because I think it's easier to play than a trombone.

Choosing an easier instrument will never get anyone anywhere...if we all wanted to play easy instruments we'd all be playing Tamborine and the recorder...Maybe a few percussionists knocked the Triangle

I still choose trombone though.

I was in the color guard(flags) for high school, and in music theory few semesters, and top choir, so I know musicians. From a social point, tumpet players are egotistical. Because its fairly easy, they learn fast, and they excel quicker from the rest. Trombone takes some time, but they are more modest and poilte in the long run. And the Trombone has a better sound. So I would choose trombone if I were you. And thats for introducing me to putfile just now....so I could show you this, its trombone, see if its the sound you're looking for. I prefer it to Trumpet.

This is during one of my music theory classes when the teacher wasnt there, and a few of the more talented students got up and started doing some jazz band stuff. Presenting Bryan on Guitar, Chris on Piano and Derek on Trombone. I think Aaron does a little sax in there too, but its hardly audible. Hope this helps!

Well today I went to a music store and I ended up buying a Windsor Student B-flat Trumpet (Model Number TR-5219, for C $289 (USD $247). The salesperson was very friendly and said if I don't like it/ my teacher says its a bad model I can return it for full refund within a week.He also said it's made in China, as opposed to Europe or the US, but it's a good student model.

It came with a really cool plush hard case along with oil and polishing cloths. I don't know if its a good deal because I know nothing about trumpets, so I'm just hoping I didn't waste my money.

So thanks for all the help you guys gave me on my desicion.

Right now It's sitting in the case, I'm afraid to touch it, let alone put the mouth piece in :P.
