yes that's what i'm saying. but according to the panda dude, you can't possibly play unless some one has taught you theory, etc. or am i getting it wrong? i think we're mostly misunderstanding each other, no bad feelings.

Oh okay, yeah I agree with you. You can play without knowing theory. Heaps of musicians learn purely by ear. Having that background knowledge of theory can be a huge help, but there are plenty of great musicians I know who have gone without it.

no, what i'm saying is you can't start transcribing without knowing how to play first. that, and you 'can' learn the modicum of theory necessary to teach yourself to transcribe music through tablature.

no bad feelings indeed, sorry if we got off on the wrong foot

i guess there are different ways to see things, and that's how it should be anyways. nice tracks on myspace, btw.

Default Self Taught??

I just wish I didn't have to pay him for stuff like that, but he's great at helping me with my theory.

Regards

I am somewhat self taught on the drums.

I would love to have a teacher though.

well when your self taught then generally your style is totally unique, and when you have a teacher you generally get some musical traits of the teacher, so i prefer to be self taught, to be unique

I'm a semi experienced guitarist, been playing for about nine years, and took lessons for four.
if you can't afford to take lessons, or lessons aren't readily available, Just teach yourself chord and scale structure. Not to mention theory!
once you start to get those basics down you can pretty much pick up anything.

really? ive only been playing for two or so years, but for the first year and a half all i did all day for like 10 hours was play guitar... so i take pride in being about 20% farther along than other people who've been playing the same amout of time =P
