it's all good. if you've got a fretboard like the one in the photo it's maple. not a bad thing at all, gives a 'slightly' brighter tone and snappier feel i find, but it's not like hearing the difference between a Strat and a Les Paul.

nothing wrong with your song choices either, especially if you're cool with just learning little bits and pieces here and there. practice makes perfect after all and there's no substitute for practice.

though i can't help but notice the lack of Hendrix... tsk... disappointing hahaha (Manic Depression / Fire / Hey Joe / The Wind Cries Mary are all quite easy to play).
